Well, we didn’t have this on our bingo card for 2024: The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley and parody site Hard Drive are having a bit of a spat – and it’s all playing out publicly on social media. While we’re sure there’ll be no grudges held, things have been getting a little juicy all week, ever since the ex-Bonus Round presenter attempted to defend the price of the PS5 Pro by comparing it to the inflation adjusted fee of previous PlayStation formats.
Hard Drive subsequently wrote a story announcing Sony would be releasing a “pro version of boots for Keighley to lick”, which made our PS5 Pro memes round up:
Earlier today it posted a picture of a truck filled with dollar bills, and attached the caption “Geoff Keighley on his way home from PlayStation HQ”. The host subsequently responded with a GIF saying “show me the receipts”:
This prompted Hard Drive to capture a video of Keighley’s live blog from the PS5 Pro presentation, with the caption: “Did you forget to invoice them?” Keighley responded with a Hard Drive message celebrating the release Astro Bot, writing: “Will send mine in right after yours!”
In a final exchange, Hard Drive simply sent Keighley an infamous image of a teleprompter at The Game Awards, where victors were prompted to “please wrap it up” – in reference to their acceptance speeches. Keighley said: “How original! Love the site, though!”
And that seems to have concluded the war of words for now, although we suspect this is going to prompt Hard Drive to go even harder on Keighley in future articles. It’ll be quite amusing to see how this war of words develops; for now, all seems calm on the frontlines.

Hard Drive is like The Onion. It’s just harmless fun. I like Geoff but he should probably have a laugh at himself every now and then. I doubt the article was that serious. Good that he at least seems to have took it well by the end.
That’s not beef, that’s journalism in action. People like Geoff are there to be held to account, he’s a simp in a suit. Some people just need to stop huffing their own farts.
Geoff does come across as a bit of a bore to me in the sense that he takes everything way too seriously. When he laughs at stuff at his shows it seems forced, and during the sesame street sketches he does he is literally miming all of the words everybody is saying which takes the spontaneity out of it. When funny unscripted stuff happens which isn't pre-planned you can see the annoyance and anger in his eyes. He needs to chill.
He’s such a corporate shill. Good for them to knock him down a few pegs.
Ahh… the evolution of the Xbox tax - the PlayStation rebate 🤣. Just in time for Hellblade 2 to not receive a GotY nomination. Clever… as far as the masses go: transparent for the one-eyed king 😉
I fear the wit of those crusty old punks at Hard Drive and The Hard Times more than anything. Geoff is living my nightmare
I can't stand Geoff.
The sarcasm on Astro Bot makes me feel disgusting. This game is definitely a GOTY contender. Criticism and possible hatred towards SONY shouldn’t be aimed at Astro Bot, especially from someone who doesn’t even own a PS to play the game.
@Nowings It’s a satirical website. It’s a joke. ‘They should only make fun of the things I don’t like’ is a slightly worrying attitude.
Same site that made this article
https://hard-drive.net/hd/video-games/ps5-pro-to-be-bundled-with-dildo-attachment-for-fanboys-to-ride/
Who runs that site? Some butthurt Xbox fanboy? Looking through most of their articles and I can't take them seriously. Why is Geoff even bothering to interact with them is beyond me.
This is the first time i heard a parody site name Hard Drive.
@PuppetMaster their stuff is hilarious. Worth a look every now and then.
@colonelkilgore “one eye king”, good description.
@Steel76 Then sit.
Hard Drive's posts are pretty good, it's all satirical that pokes fun at whatever is in the news cycle at the moment.
@UltimateOtaku91 How did you look at more than three articles and not realise it's satirical?
Maybe because some people will go to any lengths to defend their little white plastic box, @MrPeanutbutterz.. 😜
@UltimateOtaku91 You're linking an article about PS5 Pro dildo attachments and acting offended. Why do you seem butthurt over what's clearly silly satire?
Maybe that article has a point.
@UltimateOtaku91 It's a parody site, xbox/ms also get made fun of, it's just rare xbox actually does anything.. like at all

Here's one I enjoyed
Hard drive is still a thing? Man, that ***** got old 5 years ago.
People getting mad at satire websites reminds me of when I first joined this website. Oh the good ol' days...
The fact that Geoff couldnt let it go shows how ego much he has. If he really cares, maybe he'll think twice next time about prioritizing corporate interests over gamers
@HotGoomba you’re a satire website?!?
Geoff is nothing but a paid influencer and marketing guerilla for hire. Not all contributions are in hard money. The industry seriously needs to stop taking him seriously. He's just iJustine with better connections.
I still think $660 with a disc drive could have saved them.
@Yousef- Debatably
I know it's a satire site, but it feel just like an extremely petty personal attack instead of, you know, a joke, but I guess this is how adults behave nowadays on social media.
@SlipperyFish I must have been half asleep when reading this article as I missed the part that said it was a parody site, makes sense now. If Geoff knows it's a parody site then I don't know why he's bothering.
@UltimateOtaku91 Happens to the best of us
To be fair, it's an oddly personal offense from a site that doesn't usually attack people directly, and Geoff seems kind of playful about it. Must be hard to be in that position
Could have been worse it could have been Kojimas rear instead of feet lol the man can't praise Kojima enough. Don't get me wrong brilliant mind in gaming and MGS are some of my best games of all time but man does GK get a.............. When Kojimas near by
@Sequel saved them from what?
I’m not defending Sony and the price point of the pro but the fact that Stands are flying off the shelf right now indicates that they don’t need saving…the Pro is going to sell well.
I like Geoff a lot. No idea if he is actually directly responsible for them actually taking place, but I like the shows he hosts a lot.
I´m still miffed that E3 is nothing more than a few boring pre-recorded streams now. Sure, actual games are at the forefront of these shorter streams, now more than ever, but they are so boring and safe.
Where´s all the wacky fake live gameplay gone? Why did all the big gaming companies just cave in and collectively say: "no, we won´t ever chance this kind of embarrassment again". So lame
Oh come on, I think this has been read completely wrong (or not at all) judging by the comments. Doesn't look to me there's any actual beef, I feel like Geoff is trying to banter with them and not being any good at it, which might be a bit awk but don't see any malice behind it.
@Ajbr8687 I consider myself something of an amateur business analyst and do think without my suggestions Playstation could fail. We'll see..
I talk like that with my close friends all the time. Nothing to see here.
That cockroach Keighley is so unpleasant.
@Sequel ok - well I’m an actual business analyst and executive at a large company.
1. PlayStation overall won’t “fail” without your suggestions
2. They priced this thing to make money. It’s not the base model. They are capitalizing on people that are willing to shell out $700 for an upgrade. They’ll manufacture the product and sell quite a bit at $700. They likely worked in plenty of margin in the event that it doesn’t sell well.
Starting at $700 with good margin to test the market is the smart business thing to do. That way they can later drop price to $650 or so and still make margin. If they start at $650 or as many people demand $500 they have nowhere to go and could end up losing a ton on the product.
This isn’t the base model “lose money to make money on software”. They have 0 incentive to not maximize profits on this console.
@Ajbr8687 I'd have to see your credentials to be sure, but sounds convincing. We'll see. I still think 660 with a drive + 3 years ps+ premium would do the trick. May the best analyst win! GL!
@Sequel they’d lose money on that. That would be corporate suicide. 3 years of premium?? That’s $400 + alone. With all due respect that’s insane.
Also 80%+ game sales are digital now. You may never see a disk drive on a console ever again.
Let the best analyst win? Seems like one of us is in touch with reality the other just wants free stuff.
@Ajbr8687 I retract the ps+ now, you're right not realistic. If they do a bundle with drive for 700 I might get one, even though I have a good PC I still romanticize console somewhat
