The rumours were true: Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 will boast both PvE and PvP multiplayer modes alongside its single-player campaign (which can also be played in co-op). The two modes were confirmed during the Warhammer Skulls 2024 event earlier today, complete with the gory gameplay that we've posted at the top of this article.
So, first up, we've got 'Operations' — a three-player co-op mode that has you mowing down monstrous hordes while completing missions. And then there's 'Eternal War', which is a six-versus-six battle to the death. Both of these multiplayer offerings are made up of six character classes, and you'll be able to customise your Marine with all sorts of cosmetics.
It's starting to sound like Space Marine 2 will be rather robust when it launches for PS5 on the 9th September.

This probably means we're only gonna get a two hour campaign, and the rest of the focus will be on multiplayer.

Who cares MP... How about that single player campaign???
@Steel76 I'm gonna give it the benefit of the doubt and say it'll probably clock 8-10hrs. The original game had roughly that length.
The original game also had multiplayer which I heard was kinda fun. I never played it because I rented it from GameFly and it had one of those passes to prevent renters from playing the MP. Remember those?
I had the collector's edition pre-ordered as soon as they went live. I really want that statue because, despite being a massive Warhammer 40K fan and statue collector, I have zero Warhammer 40K statues. I typically don't pre-order anything unless I'm really looking forward to the game and it has a substantial incentive for pre-ordering, like a statue, not knickknacks and digital items. I hope the game is good. I can always cancel my pre-order if not.
The PVE mode sounds and looks fun! As the Emperor wills.
Not a huge fan of MP. Guess I have to skip it. I know one of you guys gonna say like "you can just ignore it and focus on single campaign!" or something like this but I can't ignore MP trophies. No MP trophies, no frustration.
I used to work at Games Workshop in Nottingham where they created this IP, it’s always been ripe for transferring to a good video game imo. Especially the Space Marine stuff. Not sure why a AAA developer hasn’t really gone after it to be honest, it could be a great Doom alternative. But what do I know? Anyway hope it turns out decent so we can play something other than endless FF and comic book games.
Really looking forward to this, adored the first. Waiting for tons of reviews tho first. Is the single player campaign perfectly playable solo without the need of a coop partner to be enjoyed properly and how chunky long and fun is the campaign, hence wait for the reviews. Don't hate multiplayer ain't so big on it tho but this Warhammer SM2 world always has the potential to be something special multiplayer wise
