It's 'Probably About Time' for a New Final Fantasy Tactics, Says Yoshi-P 1

It's fair to say fans of Final Fantasy Tactics are keen to see a new entry in the series. Demand for the strategic spin-off to return has only become louder with time, especially after the infamous Nvidia leak, which has named many games long before their official announcement — including a Tactics remaster. While hopes of a new game were dashed late last year, Final Fantasy's main man Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) has reopened the possibility.

Speaking in an interview with The Gamer, Yoshi-P expresses his love of the Tactics series, and says a lot of team members previously worked on the games and still love it too.

"We have a lot of our staff who worked on previous games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Final Fantasy 12, so you're going to have a lot of that [Tactics] feel because a lot of the same people are on the team," he tells The Gamer. He goes on to say the team "love Tactics as well", and that it's "probably about time that we do a new one".

As for what a modern Tactics title would look like, don't expect it to share too much in common with Final Fantasy 16. Localisation director Michael-Christoper Koji Fox and director Takeo Kujiraoka aren't convinced the latest main entry makes for a good fit with Tactics. "What would we even call it?" Fox asked, "Final Fantasy 16 Tactics? That’s a lot."

It's encouraging to hear Final Fantasy's top brass talking about bringing Tactics back in some form. We've no clue as to how far away a potential new game might be, but there's enough here to suggest it's on the cards, at least.
