Darkest Dungeon 2 was recently rated for PS5 and PS4, with the grimdark rogue-lite recently finishing up a solid stint in Early Access on Steam. Tough-as-nails, with perhaps the best narrator in all of gaming, the sequel made some radical departures that didn't all land with fans of the original Darkest Dungeon. Thankfully, the Kingdoms campaign coming via a future free update looks like it will offer something of interest to die-hard fans of the first game.

Shown off during The Triple-i Initiative's recent digital indie showcase, Kingdoms will see players fighting back against three new monster factions - The Coven, Beastmen, and the Crimson Courtiers. Rather than embark on a diabolical road trip like the base game, the goal is to protect and nurture your Kingdom by defending a crucial network of safe havens and purging anything that might threaten the peace. This added layer of persistent strategy is what we found we missed the most from the first game, so it's nice to see something similar added here.

What do you think of Darkest Dungeon 2's Kingdoms campaign? It's expected sometime in 2024, but we are still awaiting confirmation of a PlayStation release date; perhaps they'll coincide. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
