In an unexpected turn of events, it's been discovered that Pentiment actually runs better on PS5 than Xbox Series X due to a bug that's allowing the game to run at 120 frames-per-second. The feature is currently disabled on Microsoft's own console due to a glitch, but this will be fixed in an upcoming patch. So, the PS5 version of a Microsoft-published game temporarily runs better than what's available on Xbox — that's the world we now live in.

Of course, given Pentiment is a 2D side-scrolling game that is played at a pretty slow pace, being able to play at 120fps instead of 60 isn't exactly game-changing. Still, it's an update that might as well be implemented by developer Obsidian Entertainment and will soon also be available on Xbox Series X systems — and presumably Xbox Series S too.

We published our Pentiment PS5 review earlier today, and found it to be "compelling throughout" thanks to an engaging story and its unique, beautiful art style. "The mystery at the heart of the narrative remains compelling throughout, but it was the smaller moments that warmed our hearts; breaking bread with friends, sharing in their joy and heartbreak, watching lives play out, and generations pass, in a world on the cusp of dramatic change."
