Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition

Update: Following the leaks overnight, Ubisoft has now confirmed Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition is indeed in development. More news will be shared in early 2024, but the publisher is "dedicated to making it an experience that truly honors the legacy of the original". Ubisoft says the version that got out via its subscriptions service to the point where it was briefly playable was an early build that isn't "indicative of the final game".

Original article: A 20th-anniversary edition of Beyond Good & Evil leaked — and then even became briefly playable — overnight through an Xbox Achievement listing, suggesting a re-release of the PS2 classic is imminent. Exophase is tracking Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One versions for a 20th Anniversary Edition, with complete Achievement lists attached; this usually hints at a full release in the near future, with PS5, PS4 versions pretty much a certainty.

Following the Exophase listing, the game's Xbox Store page revealed extra details like a 4K resolution at 60 frames-per-second with "improved graphics, controls, and audio, along with brand-new autosave and cross-save features". There's also a new speedrun mode, the aforementioned Trophies, and an anniversary gallery.

To really seal the deal, the 20th Anniversary Edition then even became playable for a short time via Ubisoft+ on Xbox, so this new version is very much happening.

First released for PS2 in November 2003, you play photojournalist Jade as she attempts to uncover an alien conspiracy. The game received a PS3 remaster and sequel in Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced years ago, but it has yet to see the light of day. Are you interested in returning to the first game?
