Three More PS Plus Essential Games Up for Download Now on PS5, PS4

Grid Legends is worth a download but, given the immense size of the PS4's game library, why do we keep getting these weak at best efforts?

I guess I’ll download them. Just so when I die the wife can sell the account for more money lol. Really have no time to play games of this quality level myself though.

Good Month. Bored of people saying its a weak month, each month, We can't all expect top rated games in their preferred genre. every single month.

The games are there to spike interest in games which have come and gone. I myself may not like all of them but if these games didn't come to ps plus I probably would never just give them ago and its great when I find one which I like and its all worth it then.

Take grid legends for example. I remember playing the original grid and enjoyed it but im not a racing game playing, but because its free, I'll give a go.

I've never played or heard of chivalry 2 and I don't even know what it's about but ill blindly go in and see.

Descenders, is another I wouldn't put money down on but again give it a try and I may just enjoy it.

And yes PS4 had an immense catalogue of games but if we had all the big hitters each and every month we would soon run out and be left with the dribs and drabs, xbox games for gold anyone and they started with dribs and drabs

I agree in principle. Subs like this should be here to give us easy entry to try games we may overlook otherwise. Unfortunately, many of us just don’t have the time we once did, and can’t even get through all the games we know we are really interested in. I think that’s why many people want to get those games we are really interested in as part of the service. Unreasonable undoubtedly, and Extra especially is phenomenal value…if you have the free time to spend taking advantage of all the mid level games.

This is the lowest entry level free games - the equivalent of Xbox games with gold. Essentially you have this for online play and cloud saves and a couple of freebies are a bonus.
On that basis, these are fine titles and this tier beats its rival in terms of relevance each and every month.
I'm actually into all three of these, these are good games for me.

Essential Vs Game pass is an entirely different conversation (though its a lot closer than many give credit for), but this basic tier is still good value.

It’s not even remotely close.

Extra isn’t either. But. I do like the way Extra is going. It’s good! Game Pass is still king though. Especially if you happen to game on PC as well.

All 3 are worth a play at least for a bit. I can see myself getting pulled into Chivalry 2 the most. Will be a bit though as I just started God of War Ragnarock.

@RamboMike Thanks for your response. GWG is a joke and other than this month I've not claimed a title at all.
I don't agree at all with your assessment of PSN Extra vs GP, but it completely depends what you use the services for I guess. I also game on a series X and also use it on a 3090 PC, but I find there's not much other than a few indies on GP that I use and several months where I've not played anything. I get just as much use from my PSN premium as I do for gamepass, but I'm not a man who plays tons of indies so that's probably why.

Out of the three, I'm really only interested in Chivalry 2. Is it worth playing (can it be played?) as a single-player, ie not online multiplayer?

But Game Pass only good for indies?
Game Pass gets several AA and AAA non-in house games on release as well.

A Plague Tale: Requiem and Wo Long are two recent examples of very nice games on day 1 on game pass. For both Series S/X and PC. And yeah. There are some really nice indie gems there as well to be frank. Basically Game Pass gets all the PS Extra games, only sooner, plus a lot more. The big exception ofc is Sonys games. We all love those obviously!

But yeah. Game Pass value only rises considering it’s both PC and console.

Re GP:
The fact you had to go back to plague tale, which was 1/2 a year ago, shows your are stretching. Hi Fi rush would have been a better example:)
X box app is so poor on PC I've taken to getting games on Steam again - they usually work, and work better. So I don't see value in the PC thing very often - several of the titles are also early access - as if we don't get enough broken titles on PC anyway
PS extra also has some great indies, both Tchia and Stray were day 1 releases and there are loads (developed for PS4) that never make it to gamepass.
Value is in the eye of the beholder and I use PS extra as much as I use game pass. If MS ever release any 1st party titles that are actually worthwhile, maybe that difference will show itself again, but right now the 700 titles in Extra> the 400 titles in GP for me and my tastes. I accept millage will vary according to tastes, but the suggestion is far from laugable.

I have Chivalry on PC and it's an absolute blast. I'd suggest playing with some friends, unless you want to roleplay The Knights Who Say "Ni!".

Chivalry 2 is a good month tbf. Descenders could be funny if you can play with friends

@thefourfoldroot1 I've played some excellent games through the ps plus free monthly games, which I wouldn't of picked up. And if people really want to play the top ga.es then buy them.

Ps plus extra has been a god send for myself and my kids, monies pretty tight at the moment and I'm normally the one to buy every game, we want but I have to now be very strict. So paying the yearly fee, I keep my kids happy picking and choosing games like they do on a tablet. And ive got to play some classic games I never got around to and some different genres to try.

Its brilliant. People these days are greedy and want the latest games on it. But if the latest games were on it. Then where would the money come from, if sales went down due to just being on a subscription service. You'd lose millions.

Lose millions and the quality of games would go down.

Xbox game pass is already showing the reality of subscription service. They are losing money and it is not profitable. The only reason its sustainable for them is they have money to burn.

Agree with everything you said. For someone in that position it is a godsend. Unbelievable value. Objectively. But for those of us who are more time poor than cash poor, and / or don’t share the subscription with anyone else, the value proposition is somewhat different.

I guess I’m just saying we all have our own circumstances. As a 40 year old without kids I’m just in a completely different situation. This is why it will be hard to grow the subscriber base much beyond what it currently is should game quality need to be maintained.

Ah chivalry is poor the only decent one is grid legends.Completed it and it's ok suppose. No gran turismo but defo worth one play through 👍

Grid is great, already have it on physical release..
But it's a bit annoying when you have to do 2 different races to unlock a third, but the third only unlocks when you do one of the first two twice, due to a stupid minimum miles requirement to unlock the third..
