Rumours of a big PlayStation blowout in May continue to swirl, with some fresh fuel fanning the flames; some of the biggest names in the video game insider scene seem to think the legendary fighting franchise will be shown at Sony's next show. Mortal Kombat 12 was semi-sorta revealed during a Warner Bros earnings call, it's worth recalling, in an incredibly underwhelming fashion.
A veritable rogues' gallery of industry insiders, Jeff Grub, Shpeshal Nick and Rand al Thor, and Jez Cordon are all on record as saying this will be a thing; in addition, the series' official website got a major overhaul in recent weeks (thanks Twisted Voxel).
As always, though, we must simply wait and see, but the signs are all there. Sony has been trying to make Mortal Kombat competitions a thing for a while now on YouTube, and the firm very much wants PlayStation to be perceived as the fighting game console. Add onto that the no-doubt very warm relationship between Sony and Warner Bros (collaborating on the marketing campaigns for both Hogwarts Legacy and Suicide Squad), and there does seem to be something here.

MK12 being there makes so much sense to me that I'm annoyed I didn't consider this possibility sooner.
Just bought MK11 Ultimate. I'll be waiting until MK12 Ultimate releases in a few years.

Hopefully its current gen only. Really interested in where they will take it story wise considering how MK11 and its Expansion ended and i'm curious where this leaves the new blood like Cassie.
Because nothing justifies 2 years of Sony silence, and screams next Gen, like another friggin mortal kombat game.

A new MK game is always a great moment. I am a bit surprised we're not seeing another Injustice first though.
Sony claim they want to be the home of fighting games genre... surely they'd want a super hero fighting game for the masses, because as much as I adore MK... there's only so many copies of that game you will ever sell. Injustice has the potential to attract more players I think.
As a Mortal Kombat fan since the early 90s, please be true! I love how Netherealm isn't afraid to experiment with the games then keep what works and change what doesn't iteration to iteration. I also hope Boon's teasing of a new Konquest mode is true - the Krypt seemed to be heading in that direction anyway
MK12 will launch in April 2024 either on the 16th or the 23rd
@nocdaes I don't know about that, I mean MK11 sold something like 15mil copies! The IP is the strongest it's ever been so I'm not surprised they're charging ahead with another one.
Maybe when the new DC film universe arrives they might try something then.
Never mind all the moaning above - this alone would make the showcase worth watching. But can they please stop inventing tedious new characters and give people what they want rather than Boon trolling fans about characters they’re asking for only to deliver some wastrel guest character from a horror film instead lolz…
I really hope this is true. After being a bit disappointed with the SF6 demo, I’d really love an MK12 reveal, as I loved MK11.
I am not getting fooled again to buy MK12 at launch. I will wait a year to get the Ultimate version. That is unless they somehow make the characters uglier...
@KaijuKaiser They seem to prefer the month of April for new MK launches (not talking DLC or special editions like Ultimate)... so I expect the rumor to be false, or for the game to be delayed in the end.
Loved MK my whole life but I’ll be majorly disappointed if they don’t do a game similar to Shaolin Monks.. the free roam aspect was so much fun that after playing that for hundreds of hours I never played MK the same after.. I’ve owned all of them at one point or another and I’m sure I’ll buy this one too cuz MK is the sh**.. but that free roam mode though
What other games will be featured in the upcoming showcase that have already been leaked numerous times to the point the surprise is gone? Show me first and second party games. It's been two years

I’m not enough into fighting games to be competitive, so I don’t care about being up-to-date on every launch and DLC fighter drop, but I do enjoy them enough to play local versus with a friend. So I’d much rather save my money buy the complete edition with all of the characters included.
I just bought MK11 Ultimate for $16 Canadian. The launch release was $80; add on all the DLC and you might triple or quadruple that price.
For all the people say that it’s better than the old days — where you had to buy an entire new game for extra characters and balance patches (eg. Street Fighter II) — it adds up to roughly the same amount if they charge you for multiple season passes and said balance patches (eg. Street Fighter V).
Fighting games in recent years have found a way to charge people as much as they did in the quarter-munching arcade days,

@Impossibilium It was MK9 on PS3 and eventually MKX on PS4 that finally had me just wait. There was zero reason for me to have it day one when I can save essentially 90% with patience. Most people don't play MK for the storylines though they've gotten better over the years.
@jonnybuck84 If the Nvidia leak is to be believed Injustice 3 is happening with another studio.
But, it's difficult to interject it when MK sells so much more.
Injustice 2 was perfect to me i still haven't played the latest MK11 I was so baffled with UHD disc that they had the balls to release it with a DLC code in there and then release the PS4 version all fully on disc?

@nomither6 I care about a complete game if its released in a complete edition with vouchers it's a waste of time and plastic. And yes I don't care that much about MK11 indeed. Injustice was the more fun and the more complete game for me.
