Organiser and host Geoff Keighley has confirmed that Gamescom Opening Night Live (often shortened to Gamescom ONL) will return this summer. The event is set for Tuesday the 22nd August, and will once again act as a curtain raiser for the Cologne-based convention. The show will, of course, be livestreamed, and you can expect various game announcements and updates to come out of it.
ONL has been a bit hit and miss over the last few years, mostly because all of the big reveals tend to happen over the months prior to the event. Let's not forget that Geoff's other project, Summer Game Fest, kicks off on the 8th June. The man clearly likes to stay busy.

@Tr3mm0r But gamescom is the big winner now where E3 is a thing of the past (at least for the next few years). Maybe its quality will rise.
I kinda like these shows. Given how there's literally nothing gaming related on normal TV at home, these shows for me are always something to look forward to. Even enjoy watching Xbox and Nintendo shows or directs despite only affording a PS5 currently. And I don't particularly hate Geoff Keighly either like some do, I actually think he seems an alright dude and can put on a decent show. These shows are only as good as the games that are available to the show at the time of the show going live, so not all shows are going to be top tier on fire all of the time, still enjoy them nonetheless

I mean... I have zero hype for any presentations anymore. I guess there's a chance something could be shown of interest. I expect it'll be 60% GaaS and 35% Indy and 5% AAA with no foreseeable release date.

Geoff is the only one that believes in still putting showcases, he does put a lot of effort in the industry trying to bring the communities together so fair play nice to see we still do have a few things to look forward to regardless of an e3 absence again.
Geoff is the Elon Musk of games media. Gone from being a bit of a saddo meme in the last few years to being an actively bad dude.
@Beerheadgamer82 I sense this may be why gaming seems to have hit a plateau. Gaming shows are basically non-existent these days, and those that do start up only stick around for a short while before disappearing back into obscurity. Heck, I'm sure plenty of people would watch esports if they were on broadcast TV. So even if one doesn't like Geoff Keighley himself, he is the last bastion of old, non-corporate gaming.
Well without E3 this is there chance to go all out and secure some big announcements.
Gamescom has always been the biggest show in terms of attendance and it's for the players. E3 was investor drivel, so i am happy with the turn of events
