Studio Mundfish has today deployed patch 1.4 for Atomic Heart on PS5 and PS4, bringing with it 120fps support for the current-gen version and a whole host of fixes and changes. As long as you own a 4K TV with HDMI 2.1 support, you will now have the option of running the FPS at up to 120fps on PS5. Other updates in today's patch include fixes for some broken Trophies and the ability to resize the HUD and subtitles.
The visuals and audio have also received another pass, with improved shadows and shaders along with better first-person animations where the game broke in the past. Some quests have then been fixed, and now you can loot corpses in the water. Then you've got a better Mass Telekinesis ability to look forward to and improved climbing in corners.
A 6/10 rating was awarded in our Atomic Heart PS5 review, with great visuals and a versatile ability system being its high points. "This mashup of shooter, stealth, and RPG wears its influences proudly but rarely matches them. Its alt-history setting is interesting and there are plenty of ways to approach the robot-killing, but these elements are at odds with messy storytelling and characterisation." So much to clear on my backlog but definitely want to have a crack at this someday.
Anybody still playing this or have updated thoughts on it? I was very interested before launch but it seemed to be a bit of a disaster by some accounts (although others said they enjoyed it to a certain degree)
I might play/buy this with a heavy discount. Around that time the game should be fully updated
120hz mode is a very welcome update. I was pretty excited to play this a few months before launch but ended up being disappointed.
It's not a terrible game but it definitely didn't live up to the expectations I had for it. But I still need to go back and finish it. Mabey I'll boot up my Series X and do that this weekend. At least it's on Game Pass so I didn't waste money buying it.
@Logonogo I've started it a couple of days ago and it is a good game. Not 10 out of 10 but something like 7/10. Decent combat, awesome overall setting and atmosphere, good visuals, interesting music. Story is not the best in the class and some characters seem a little bit boring. Plus main character can be annoying. Thats probably all.
Been having problems with a couple story trophies not popping so I went back to a previous save just before one should unlock but I still didn't get it which is disappointing.
Thank god they finally fixed the trophies.
If the trophies are working properly now I’ll definitely be getting this………… when I’m done with Elden Ring, which I just started 😉👍🏽💪🏽
Great game! They've been 'on it' with the updates too 😌 Not exactly everyone's cuppa seeing as it's from a new studio and it's 'AA' roots are clear but its genuinely one of the more interesting and unique-feeling FPS games I've played in recent years. Gameplay-wise it has a lot in common with Bioshock's combat, Portal/Half-Life's environmental puzzles and the semi-open world of Crysis.
@Logonogo Not even close to a disaster imo. If you're into narrative FPS games with a great sense of atmosphere and place (Soviet dystopia with political/hierarchical themes) then I fully recommend it! Just don't go in expecting the next big-budget Bioshock as some did 🙄. The tone does tend to swing wildly from comedic and juvenile to serious and poignant, although I rather like it's uniquely odd vibe. Plus it's a shame the Russian voiceover for the environmental conversations aren't subtitled as it's far superior to the cheesy US-accent VO. But it you aren't bothered about that then play in Russian for sure 👍
As a side note: the studio seem seriously committed to updating and improving their game and it's world with player feedback. I imagine DLC story content will be pretty substantial and improve on the criticisms people had.
I'm waiting for it to drop big in a sale either on psn store or amazon etc especially now it seems the game is in a better condition..
Shame they can't fix the dreadful gameplay and annoying lead character.
The game is dire. Played it on GamePass upto about half way then quit. Embarrassing writing, cringey dialogue, out dated gameplay full of annoying lock picking puzzles. Best avoided 4/10
Now when I load my previous saves the game is automatically skipping cut scenes and long chunks of dialogue that's supposed to happen as you can move around.
@Northern_munkey @Reeneman Same plan here, waiting for Atomic Heart to drop down to $20 New or cheaper before I bite.
