PS5’s astronomic rise in Japan continues, with another impressive 91,729 units flogged during the week ending 26th February, 2023. The new-gen system has been readily available in the region since the beginning of the year, and it’s had a colossal impact on the console’s install base, which is really motoring now.

However, there were questions about the console’s software situation, with very few titles charting. That led to speculation that a lot of the units may be being exported overseas. However, this week sees several PS5 titles chart, including Like a Dragon: Ishin, which managed 31,439 units on the system – almost as many as the PS4 version, which sold 35,897 units. A decent enough result.

Hogwarts Legacy also continues to sell well on the new-gen console, while Octopath Traveler 2 sold 14,422 units – despite its predecessor never launching on PlayStation at all. Nintendo Switch is, of course, still the undisputed king of software sales in Japan – but there are signs that PS5 is beginning to pick up pace now, and we’ll definitely get a better indication when Resident Evil 4 releases later this month.
