It's been a long while since we've checked in with Battlefield 2042. The multiplayer first-person shooter arrived in a less-than-ideal state, with fans quickly lambasting the game with a laundry list of complaints. The thing is, developer DICE has been plugging away at improving the experience, responding to feedback with countless patches and updates. If you're at all curious to know how the game stands now, over a year later, you're in luck.

Battlefield 2042 will be free to play on PS5 and PS4 for seven days, starting today, 16th December. You can download the entire game free of charge right now, and you'll be able to check it out until 23rd December. You'll need a PS Plus subscription, but it won't cost you any extra.

It's an opportune time to jump in, too, because Season 3: Escalation is about to get underway, launching on the 20th. It introduces a new map, specialist, and new weapons and vehicles to master, as well as a fresh battle pass.
