While developer Naughty Dog fought to bring Ellie to the front of The Last of Us’ original boxart, the promotional poster for HBO’s television adaptation has swapped their positions. Here we see Pedro Pascal’s Joel take the limelight, as he looks back at the camera with a furrowed brow. Bella Ramsey’s Ellie stands just behind him, in her distinctive hoodie and coat combo, with a nonplussed look.

The slogan, below the title, states: “When you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light.” We wonder which Kingdom Hearts game the marketing team stole that from? Anyway, at the top there’s a reference to writers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the latter of whom created the entire franchise, of course.

In the background, we see one of the iconic skylines from the game, with dilapidated skyscrapers and tumbling buildings. It’s all very miserable and moody, but that’s in-keeping with the spirit of the story, we suppose. Remember, the show will premiere on 15th January, and we can’t wait to kick back and watch!
