Trombone Champ PS5 PlayStation 5 1

Chances are you’ve heard of toot-‘em-up Trombone Champ by now. The ridiculous rhythm game has been all over social media and has taken streaming site Twitch by storm: it’s just the latest in a long line of viral video games to blow up based purely on its threadbare premise. Thing is, its support for motion controls makes it an ideal fit for the DualSense or even DualShock 4.

For all two of you who don’t know, Trombone Champ allows you to tilt your controller to hit note markers moving from right to left. This replicates the slide of a “real” trombone, and it’s got true Titanic flute cover energy. The chances are you’re going to hit a fair few bum notes along the way, and that’s a big part of the joke – it’s basically been made for our very own Stephen Tailby.

Trombone Champ features classical music from composers like Beethoven, as well as tunes like the British National Anthem – poignantly timed in the aftermath of recent changes to the royal throne. Holy Wow Studios has yet to comment on a console port, but with the DualSense’s haptic feedback and built-in motion controls, it’s easy to imagine how this would work.

Heck, the developer could even use the PS5 pad’s microphone to simulate puffing into the in-game instrument – it’s a Game of the Year opportunity if ever we’ve seen one!
