In an exciting development for those of us without weekend plans, Far Cry 6 is now available to play for free, including all of its DLC, until 7th August. In addition, players won over by this promotion will be able to purchase various versions of the game with up to 60% off, until 17th August.
That's a massive amount of content to dive into and a cool way to entice new players to the game. The free weekend includes cooperative play as well, so if you have a friend (congratulations) you can play through the entire thing together, provided you don't sleep.
We liked Far Cry 6 well enough, and you can read our full thoughts on the matter in our review.
What do you think of this free trial weekend? Will you be diving in? Clear the area of danger and claim another outpost in the comments section below.
Quick before tencent buy them so its okay to play it..
Easily one of my favourite games of last year.
However, I got glitched out of the Joseph Seed DLC. I can’t get out of the church you start in.
When you start each DLC, you go to a mirror and unlock the first trait. Then you go to the armoury and purchase a weapon. However, the pistol case is supposed to be unlocked, but it isn't. This means I can't leave the church, because the door is locked until you purchase the pistol.
Spoke to Ubisoft Support, they got me to upload a video of the issue and the best response I got was…
“Your PS5 is broken, contact Sony for a replacement”
I’m not joking. That was their solution.
No. I don’t think I will.
@SoulChimera Really lol that’s funny. I’ve also been having fun with the game, near the end but it’s been a pretty good time. May skip that particular DLC then.
Nah don't think so, don't like being rushed. I remember back in the day, when a friend gave me NBA Street V3 to play in the morning, I was soooo hooked and guess what...he came for it in the evening!! That was it, I stopped borrowing games from friends since! It's why I'm not too keen on PS+.
I played a bit of it and wasn't feeling it at all, Far Cry 3 just can't be beat
far cry 5 was excellent this is severely lacking still have the disc in my library. but i dont think ubi is ubi of old anymore.no gamer for gamers there
It's a trap! Like giving candy TO a baby.
Got it with an AMD Ryzen CPU last year for PC. Was enjoying it in the first 3 - 4 hours until I kept hitting stupid glitches so I uninstalled it. The game felt very unpolished.
I'm assuming then it'll be availible from tomorrow at 8am?
This was the first FC I had no interest in buying, it looked more like a terrible Just Cause spin off, but might give it a spin for free
Game was ok. Characters/Story not gritty enough. Not even slightly believable that these people were resistance fighters lol Wish they would ramp up the realism and create characters who behave like real people in that situation would behave. We got the Disney version sadly.
Great game! The only bit I didn't like was the middle section where you help out that...I guess they were a band...group. Just didn't like their personalities. Had a blast with it otherwise though!
@SoulChimera similar experience I had with far cry 5 and Valhalla. Although eventually the game breaking Valhalla bug that prevented a platinum was fixed 9 months later. Far Cry 5 freezing every hour or so they blamed Sony and the Ps5 and never fixed it...
Haven't bought another Ubisoft game since and likely won't now with this tencent buyout if it rings true. Ubisoft needed a change away from greed driven copy and pasted open world development for sure, tencent isn't the change that's going to do that lol
I loved Farcry 3 to bits, fell off of Far Cry 4 very quickly, felt like a reskin of 3 and seems every game since has been the same.
Still, I'd give this a go for free but can't get it to work.
I do like me some FC but now is getting really tired of the same type jungles all the time. FC6 main campaign had its fun moments but all its dlc is boring. Why not do a completely different type of FC game like set in 20s Mafia or GTA style set in the 70s or something random or FC in London Jack the Ripper times or I dunno what about in space in the year 2342 with some nasty Aliens. FC Primal gives me hope although that did have jungles as well goddammit
Female Dani is ace in this.
Nice offer, but don't think I will bother as don't want to rush it and I'm currently playing through far cry 4 on the ps4 anyway, I played it on ps3 but recently got the ps4 version on sale. Will probably get far cry 6 for the current generation when I upgrade at somepoint
Yeah a different setting would be nice, although I couldn't bother to finish far cry primal to be honest. Far cry 5 has a few different dlc, one in Vietnam I think and a zombie one and something in space too
Ouch, I didn't realize the free weekend included all DLC - might have tried a completion marathon if I had. Probably too late now, oh well.
Maaaaan, I'm so tempted! Well what the hell. Gonna uninstall a few games and try it.
@TurboTom yh FC Primal platinum got really tedious towards the end. Played Blood Dragon classic edition last week, while it feels different it's still the same old jungle type game but with weird different type enemies to kill but the sci-fi 80s vibe is kinda cool
Yeah, the standard edition of this game is supposed to be on sale for $26.99 ($23.99 for PS Plus members) right now, but when Sony refreshed the store yesterday, they screwed up and the price reverted back to $59.99. Hopefully they'll fix that before the sale is up, because I was planning on buying it at that price.
That's cool, don't think I played Blood Dragon. However far cry 3 is one of my favourite games, I played it for ps3 and ps4, I'm sure the ps4 version was included with far cry 5 for free.
It's the weakest Far Cry for sure, no difficulty setting so you become overpowered within a couple of hours, no need to change weapons. It really is Far Cry 5 reskinned with a worse story.
Played 6 and finished it. 6 had it's moments but 5 is still the best one follow by 3. I might give the DLC a chance if it's free this weekend.
@TurboTom FC3 is definitely considered the best of all FC games and I'd have to agree with that too. Have both PS3 and PS4 platinums for FC3 so much fun. Definitely the high point of the series. Just fed up of jungles now lol, it's all getting samey
@Ilovecoffee I'm with you there.
I absolutely loved 5, easily my favourite. Followed by 3 and then 4.
I was really looking forward to 6, but it turned out to be the most disappointing game I've played since Watch Dogs.
That stupid, moronic, un-fun dual ammo system from that equally moronic Wolfenstein game.
Two great game series, and both ruined by the same mechanic.
Plus I think 6 was just weaker across the board in terms of the concept/location which didn't capture my heart (5's locations, religious undertones, characters and music were outstanding).
Also an antagonist who had so much promise (great actor) but in reality was a charisma-vacuum and under-used. For a series that is well know for antagonists who leave you conflicted due to their charisma (reaching a peak with the hypnotic Seed), they sure stuffed that up, despite having the acting talent on board.
Will wait for it to join PS Plus Premium
Played for an hour or so, but decided to let the franchise rest. After FC 2, 3 and 4 it's enough of the same kind of gameplay, uninspired environments, the map with 1000+ icons and horrible graphics on PS5 that seem stuck in the PS3 era. I don't even want it for free Ubisoft, there are way better games to waste my time on!
I like FC 3,4,5 a lot, but 6 only a little. The game does have some moments and performed well on my PRO. Overall the first quarter was good, quarters 2,3 I wondered when the game is going to get better, and the last quarter of can't waiting for it to end so I can delete the large file. I did not play any of the dlc.
Also, by mid game I lost interest in the Libertards, the good guys I joined to help. If given the option I may have defected to the other side.
Tempting of an offer as that is, I've got games I already own or have access to that are calling my name.
@steizgr8 yeah I agree, 5 was a bit better though. More interesting setting, story and gameplay than 4. But still more or less the same formula so if youre burned out on that you still wont like it
The standard edition appears to be back at full price from £23.99.
