Test Drive Unlimited

Following in the footsteps of Gotham Knights, developer KT Racing has decided to cancel the PlayStation 4 version of Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown. Also, the racer has been delayed to next year. In a blog post on Steam, it's explained this is being done to make "the most of the technology in the latest consoles" and maximise "the overall quality of the game".

Interestingly, a Nintendo Switch version still appears to be planned. The PS5 will now be the only place to play Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown on Sony machines.

As for the 2023 delay, the reasoning is once again all about improving the open world driving experience. "With so much support from fans of the series, we know many of you will be disappointed, but our goal with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is to make it the most polished gaming experience in the franchise by spending more time on its development," the post says. "We therefore want to thank the fan community for your support and daily involvement on the game's official Discord channel and within communities on the various social media platforms."

The blog post then expands on what to expect from Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown next year. There'll be a 550km recreation of Hong Kong Island, two clans to prove your worth, and additional beta phases. "The more impatient among you will get the chance to test the game long before it releases. This phase will allow us to gather your valuable feedback so we can keep improving the game's quality until it releases, while also staying in more regular contact with you."
