Rumour: New Mafia Game in Development, Is a Prequel to the Trilogy

Good stuff! I loved the remake, was not a big fan of 3 at all so I hope they go back to what made the series work in the beginning

Great news. Loved the remake of one and two. A shame that mafia 3 doesn’t work properly on PS5 (or mine, at least) as I’d like to play it again.

If its anything like Mafia 1 remake, sign me up.

Played it thanks to PS Now and loved it so much that I platinumed it. Great story.

Mafia 1 Remake was absolutely superb so I’d love a game like that rather than like Mafia 3.

I wouldn’t mind seeing one during Gotti’s rise and then reign in New York starting in the 80’s and finishing in the 90’s. But any time is fine with me. These guys make awesome games so I’m down for whatever 👌

I loved the remake of the first Mafia, but couldn't finish part 2 due to a gamebreaking bug in Chapter 11. I've just started part 3 and so far I like it. In other words, sign me up!

@gollumb82 Lincoln Clay is one of my all time favourite game characters. He’s pretty much the ultimate motherf***er haha. Just watch out for the few radiant quests you’ll come across when you meet new contacts. They’re pretty easy to spot and google knows all if you’re not sure. It’s a huge game though and they’re a minuscule part of it

The Mafia 1 remake was great, the remaster of the 2nd Mafia not so much. The game itself though I maybe even loved more then the first Mafia. The developer however from the offset seems unable to make a good mafia game, though I did like the third.

@gollumb82 agreed. I kept 9 Ps4 games and one of em (I count the trilogy as one as it’s 3 in 1) was the mafia trilogy

Madia III was garbage and the remake didn't do the original justice. Definitive port of II was broken on release. Please leave the series alone, absolutely zero faith in Hangar 13 even with Blackman off the project.

Great, loved all 3 games, only complain is the AI in the third game. In the majority of the missions, all I did was stay in cover behind a door and stealth kill all the bad guys aproaching, one by one, like a bunch of idiots. haha

I love the Mafia series, but its a shame the new IP they had been working on for years got canceled.

Might tell the story of Don Sallieri and Don Morello. They used to be like brothers until they had a falling out, at which point they became bitter enemies. Would be good to see how that all happened.

A prequel to Mafia 1? That could be the start of Prohibition and into the Roaring 20's. That could be interesting and good history.

Vegas is where i wanted Mafia 3 to be so maybe Vegas could be used next with the years being anytime between the late 1950's to late 1970's. Vito and Joe in Vegas?

Literally just finished watching through Boardwalk Empire not that long ago and loved the time period. So this would be great.

Just back last day enjoying mafia 3 now, superbly done game. And was just thinking and hoping they are making more games.

Sad to see so many people love the awful remake that just completely changed [destroyed] the personalities of Paulie, Don Salieri, Ralphie, and Vincenzo to name a few, and the little details in gameplay from the 2002 release that seem impossible for them to recreate almost 20 years later. At least they kept most of the original story intact, but couldn't recapture the identity and atmosphere of the original. Honestly felt like I was playing the Walmart version of Mafia instead of the real thing.

I'm not mad, just disappointed. Perhaps a prequel is what I need to come around to the new direction the series has taken.

@ryanburnsred I miss things like dynamic vehicle deformation and usable public transit from the original, but to me the personalities seem more fleshed out, and while they're not what I had imagined, they're not inconsistent?

@theheadofabroom For me it seems Paulie went from a goofy, easy-going guy (kinda like the class clown) in the original to a sociopath that hates Ralphie because of his disability. In the original Paulie makes one remark early in the game that Ralphie is an idiot but has a way with cars. He doesn't show any animosity towards Ralphie and treats him as a friend while in the remake there's clear animosity and hatred between the two, and it seems to me it stems from a very ignorant and hateful view from the new Paulie which goes completely against his entire character in the original.

Don Salieri went from the old wise Italian grandfather figure to an Italian-American uncle that's hopped up on way too much caffeine. To me the original personalities are the ones that are more fleshed out, and had far better connections to each other than the remake where it seems more like a clash of personalities. I already explained Paulie and Ralphie, but Tommy and Paulie also don't seem as close of friends as they were in the original because Paulie went from a easy-going guy that looks out and cares for everybody in the family to a straight up sociopathic jerk (keeping it PG13 for the mods).

All in all the remake is a sharp tonal shift from the original and imo not for the better. But I can appreciate some of the changes that were made to flesh out some of the missions and especially the changes done to the city. Now that I think about it if I wasn't a huge fan of the original I would probably love the remake like everyone else, unfortunately they made too many changes to things I feel like shouldn't have been touched. Sorry for writing a mini essay to you, I just really love Mafia lol

Can they just remake mafia 3? I loved the story, setting, and even production style with that documentary style. But ugh everything else was tough to play through. So much potential within the foundation of that game that unfortunately didn't come to fruition.

mafia 2 is the best one . the burning hotel mission was 🔥🔥 . had so much fun with that one

@NoCode23 Joe is believed to be dead, he leaves Empire Bay after the events of 2 and goes to Chicago, where he is beaten to death.

@HavokOfficial I'm not sure it's that clear cut, given dialogue in Mafia 3, where it's all very vague. They were definitely leaving their options open.

@HavokOfficial Joe is very much alive at the end of Mafia 3, when Leo Galante turns up if you look at his Driver you will see he bears a striking resemblance to Joe Barbaro, he even has the same scar on his Chin as Joe has in 2. Though never confirmed it is Joe, it’s highly likely to be him.

Absolutely loved all 3 Mafia games, though the third was pretty buggy and Clay's character turned out to be pretty unlikeable (especially when compared to the protagonists of the previous two games).

Can't wait to see what they do with a prequel!

@Santifa Clay unlikable? Compared to Vito, the only protagonist in the series who got into it just for the money and the glamour? IDK man, I liked Clay a lot, almost as much as my old friend Tommy 😉

Also having played both versions (I bought them all on PC first when they came out, except the remake which I bought through the trilogy on PlayStation), the console edition of 3 was rough, I think all three are kinda better on PC if I'm honest.
