New Mafia Game Rumour

A new Mafia game is in the works at developer Hangar 13, according to a fresh report from Kotaku. Not a huge surprise if true, we suppose, but it'll be interesting to see what the future holds for what is such a well known franchise. Apparently, it's going to use Unreal Engine 5, and it's actually going to be a prequel to the existing trilogy. We assume that means it'll take place before the first Mafia — remade for PS4 in 2020 — which takes place in the 1930s. We could be going back quite some time, then.

There is a bit of trepidation surrounding this rumour, however. It's been confirmed that Hangar 13 head Haden Blackman is leaving the company along with chief operating officer Matthew Urban, meaning that the developer's going through what seems to be a significant reshuffle as it gears up for this new project. Hopefully things pan out, because Hangar 13 has already been through quite an overhaul, complete with layoffs, since it released Mafia III in 2016.
