Hitman 3 studio IO Interactive is doing a bit of a switcheroo with its post-launch content plans, pushing back the new Freelancer mode and bringing forward its latest map. The previously announced mode, which is pitched as "the next evolution of Hitman", will now arrive in the second half of 2022. To make up for that, the new map — now named Ambrose Island — will launch this July. The events there are set before Hitman 3 and will fill in a few gaps in the trilogy's storyline.

The developer has shared a new screenshot of the location, which you can catch below. "We’re excited to share more details in the run-up to release, and we’re even more excited to show you another look at the location in all its glory right now," a blog post states.

As for the Freelancer mode, IO Interactive wants to give its team "that extra time to tighten the bolts and make sure that the mode is as close to our ambitions as possible. We want it to land well and be a platform for Hitman players to enjoy this game world for a long period of time." As such, it'll now launch in the second half of this year.

Apparently playtesting has been going well internally at the studio, but some elements need to be improved and certain aspects tightened. "Whilst we work on those improvements, we’re also preparing to dive deeper into the mode and share more of what you can expect." Before all then, however, a new patch and content drop is planned for 24th May 2022. This will add more featured contracts, elusive targets from the past, new weapons and suits, and a general update under the hood.
