Anyone else bored of the Silent Hill saga? Make no mistake, we have a long history with this franchise and love it to bits, but the rumours have been rumbling for years now. There was the Japan Studio chatter, before the entire department was shuttered – and there was even the Abandoned nonsense, which actually reared its ugly head again earlier this week.
Perhaps the most persistent speculation of late, though, is that Polish developer Bloober Team is working on a title in the legendary horror series – specifically a remake of the iconic PS2 survival horror, Silent Hill 2. We know that the studio has signed a partnership with Konami, and we also know it specialises in horror games. Put two and two together, eh?
But the studio ain’t saying a word for the time being. “We cannot comment on anything we are doing because we appreciate our relationship with our partners, of course,” boss Piotr Babieno told IGN. “We will make an announcement about our future projects as soon as we can. So, then you will know much more. Officially.” IGN notes Babieno was chortling as he said this, which seems pertinent.
We think it’s probably safe to say that Bloober Team is making a Silent Hill game at this point, even if Babieno isn’t quite ready to confirm it yet. However, it’s rumoured that there are multiple new entries in development, which is perhaps why the speculation seems to be so strong. We wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of this got cleaned up during the Summer Game Fest next month.
In other news, we did receive comment from Bloober Team about a contract that it’s signed with PlayStation, but unfortunately it couldn’t elaborate on the deal. “When it comes to our contract with Sony, unfortunately we are not able to say anything more,” a studio spokesperson told us. Well of course they cannot say anything. There’s contracts that are signed and can lead to some big lawsuits. I am torn on this rumor. Part of me is hoping it’s true, part of me is hoping it’s not. I want Silent Hill’s return. I want it to return to be the greatness it once was. I worry about Bloober remaking SH2. It was my favorite in the series and possibly my favorite game of all time. I think Bloober does a great job with atmosphere, I just worry about their gameplay. Maybe somebody else will help them out with the combat. Here’s hoping SH does return and is a horror masterpiece once again.
I think it's nailed on at this point that SH2 is being remade.
the whole contract thing with sony , and now his rumor , which they were rumored to be working something silent hill related in the first place. actually makes this rumor have something to stand on , unlike the abandoned rumor which was a lot of wishful thinking.
Here I was hoping that these were one of those rumors that weren't actually true....
I still occasionally think about Silent Hills and what could have been. Not even much of a SH or Kojima fan, but P.T. was something special.
Just hoping Silent Hill ends up being good or this could end up hurting Blooper. They definitely are going to have to do what they can to impress!

Strange really as i am NOT a fan of anything horror or even remotely scary. I never have been. I hate jump scares of any kind and avoid the genre at all costs being a complete wuss. SH2 was actually a game i could play in my younger days. Granted, i didnt get far (i remember seeing pyramid head doing something strange with another monster whilst i hid in a wardrobe or something?? 🤷♂️) i think its the only horror game that id say id buy if they remade it.
Still seems like an odd choice to not do Silent Hill 1 first if it is true. Or at least have the the original PS1 version available to play

I’m taking a punt on this that they’ve tweaked the first game to launch with PS Plus’s classic games which is their contract with them and that the second game remaster will then be announced.
I think, given how long this has dragged on, there’s quite a bit of Silent Hill info to come…
If it wasn't any more obvious that Bloober is making a Silent Hill game. Their statement makes it incredibly obvious that they are working on one.
im just gonna dig out the old silent hill games and replay on my ps2 compatible ps3 . only silent hill I'm getting at the mo lol

I've played some of Bloobers games and haven't been too impressed thus far. But maybe they can do a remake justice? I haven't played the Medium but at least it looks good in screenshots.
I also think the first SH game would be the best one to remake. It has aged worse than the other games, being a PS1 title, and would benefit most from a do-over. If the remake is successful then they could do SH2 afterwards instead.
Whilst RE2/3 remakes were good enough games, they were lackluster as remakes and that was with Capcom behind the development.
I seriously don't have high hopes should this SH2 remake be happening, the magic just can't be recaptured.
Yes please. Still waiting for a scary game after P.T was taken away. It feels like the right time for a remake or new one.

Even without Silent Hill, it's been great to experience horror games inspired by it. I will be glad to see something from the franchise soon, I just want one thing confirmed - there's been too many months and rumours that nothing has been confirmed. Just give us something. I don't want everything everywhere all at once.
I'm not believing anything until we see an official announcement.
