Apex Legends is a free-to-play game – and a bloody popular one at that! – but you do potentially need to spend in order to unlock some of its newer heroes. Savvy players, however, can save through February simply by logging in, as developer Respawn will be celebrating the title’s third anniversary with some giveaways.
Here’s the full schedule of what you can expect, as per a blog post published by EA:
- 8th February – 15th February: Feel the speed in Week 1 by permanently unlocking Octane plus Three Thematic Packs.
- 15th February – 22nd February: Get charged in Week 2 by permanently unlocking Wattson Character plus three Thematic Packs.
- 22nd February – 1st March: Take to the skies in Week 3 by permanently unlocking Valkyrie plus three Thematic Packs and one Legendary Pack.
If you already have all these Legends unlocked, then don’t worry: you'll still get the Thematic Packs and the Legendary Pack.
In other news, 8th February will mark the arrival of the release’s latest season, which includes newcomer Mad Maggie. You can check out her reveal trailer through here. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on that native PS5 client which leaked earlier in the month, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it rolled out alongside this promotion.

When I played Apex on PS4 I always had a ton of legend tokens to unlock them, but now that I started anew on PC its a damn long grind to just get one of them...
I already have Valk but getting the other two is nice.
@Perturbator That's why I gave up playing it. Apex is too grindy.
@Perturbator Arena mode gives 4 times the xp of the normal BR and even more if it extends to sudden death. I got enough tokens for all the characters in the space of a month.
@z0d15g0d Well, that's expected since the Arena is very high skill based than the normal Battle Royale mode
I have wanted to jump back in, but worry all players will wipe me within a few minutes as id have to relearn it all again.
Watson and Valkyire will be new for me. Sweet. I think I'll only be missing 1 character maybe after that.
@Arkantos2990 I don't think it is. It's 3v3 so you have a much better chance of winning than in BR where you could end up in a 1v everyone else situation and not have a decent weapon or ammo.
@Elodin I used arena mode to learn new characters as you get a better chance to test them out as well as endgame weapons. I quickly became a Caustic and Gibraltar fan. I never used them in BR before cause they are too slow.
Oh, that's great news!
Been playing for ~1 month (probably less) and got enough tokens to buy myself a new legend. I don't which to choose, but it's great that octane will be coming for free lol!
I think I will buy the creepy robot dude (the one that wants to murder everybody) [del]pathfinder[/def]. With the ultimate that gives you a free "extra" life
@z0d15g0d "I never used them in BR before cause they are too slow." Oh no, you fell for the trap, they have the exact base speed as other characters + they are not slowed down by bullets.
@z0d15g0d I tried some Arenas mode this seasons but I just don't like it. While I'm sure it's good for gaining XP, grinding that mode while not having fun would just defeat the purpose of the game for me.
@lolwhatno Revenant (creepy robot dude) is one of the more difficult characters to play in my experience, as you'll need a team that cooperates to make him really work.
He does look real cool though, and has some of the best legendary skins in the game.
@Perturbator Oh almost forgot about the cooperation aspect, thanks for reminding me!
I 99% of the time play solo (with randos I mean) so yeah, won't buy (for now) revenant. Maybe caustic but he has a big hitbox (I don't think as big as gibby's tho, might be wrong).
Valkyre also needs a good team (for her ult).
So I might buy caustic, maybe mirage? Sucks that I can't try out locked legends.
Edit: Got a legendary skin for fuse (the "dead captain" skin), but I don't think I like the character...
@z0d15g0d I'll try that out. Thanks for the tip
@lolwhatno Base speed yes but i'm pretty sure run speed is slower as team tends to overtake me when running which is usually the first thing everyone does when arena starts. I shall investigate this further lol.
@Perturbator That's a shame as the smaller maps are easier to memorise and you can plan your strategy right out the gate unlike BR where the fist thing is to scramble for a gun. I keep finding that teamwork with randos falls apart pretty quickly at that point. Not always but enough to notice.
@z0d15g0d I'm 95% sure there's no difference. What you hated in these characters was their hitbox size most likely not speed.
p.s: Googled it, yep 100% same walk/run speed. Not talking about abilities (like revenant fast crouch walking or octane stim).
@lolwhatno Caustic is and always has been my go to. He's not for everyone but those that understand his play style and strategy can dominate especially in the final circles. "Breath it in".
@PushButtons Yep, that's why I'm interested in buying him, his traps sound like they give a new level of tactics. But I think he is too bulky for my liking, not sure tho.
@z0d15g0d I usually play duos with a friend. And since we use discord for chat, that kinda leaves out the third person in arenas, although the ping system usually works well. There's apparently a 9vs9 mode coming soon, I'll give that a shot.
@lolwhatno don't forget you get those 3 characters for free soon. I would hang on to the tokens and try those first. Octane is easy to play solo and very popular. Wattson is more advanced but extremely annoying to play against when she teams up with Caustic. Valk is fun to play and you'll never have to worry about the ring.
Personally I'd recommend Rampart though. She used to be weak but now that you can carry the minigun she can be devastating, especially if you can flank the enemy while your teammates have their attention - you'll mow them down in seconds! Also you have essentially 3 weapons, so I can have a sniper as well. She is not popular so you'll seldom have anyone else on the team picking her first.
@Perturbator Didn't want to really buy octane because he is popular but now that you mention rampart being good, I think I might buy her.
Thanks for the recommendation (and tips for her character!), I appreciate you.
@lolwhatno Eventually you'll have enough tokens to buy them all anyway, but its too bad you can't try them out in the firing range before buying. I still haven't tried Seer (the next I will buy) or Ash, btw.
Hope you enjoy Rampart as much as I do! And get ready to hear her yell "Turret Turret TURRRRRRET" alot
@Perturbator I really like how most character have their own accent, gives them much more personality IMO.
Again, thanks for the recommendation and have a great day sir (I hope it doesn't [email protected] ba dum tss)
@lolwhatno Okay, thanks for checking it out. Must be my eyes then lol.
@Perturbator 9v9? That sounds like fun.
@z0d15g0d Sorry for @ ing you to much, but I gotta clarify. It's actually because of your eyes, them being bigger character the devs gave them slower running ANIMATIONS to give a sense of weight I assume. So you will see your weapon swaying more slowly while running, but it will be the same speed.
Anyways, all the best.
@lolwhatno lol damn them devs no one needs that amount of detail. I probably stopped using L3 at some point while wondering why they are moving faster. But thanks makes sense now.
