The critically acclaimed co-op spelunker Deep Rock Galactic is coming to the PlayStation 5 and PS4 next week, and if you’re a PS Plus subscriber, you’ll get it as part of your subscription. The four-player mining title mixes Minecraft-style resource gathering with Borderlands-esque combat for a unique blend of excavation and combat.
The launch trailer embedded above includes an original shanty and a bunch of gameplay footage, showing off the destructible, procedurally generated environments you’ll be digging through. It does look like good fun, and while we’ll endeavour to bring you a full review in the New Year, we have it on good authority that this is well worth trying.
In the UK had supply finally caught up with demand, it has definitely slowed a little compared to say 3 weeks before Christmas.
Both next generation consoles able to buy today and are hanging around longer than usual.
Which keeps scalpers away and gives everyone a chance finally to grab one.
Looks really fun, I'll definetly check it out when it launches. Just to bad none of my friends have a playstation since it looks like a blast to play with friends.
Wake the heck up samurai, we've got rocks to mine.
Anyone know if this is gonna be cross play with the Xbox version?
Oh it is a brand new game? I didn't know that. I really hope Sony continues that trend releasing brand new games on PS Plus day and date, just like in the PS3 era.
@Kienda xbox and win10, ps4 and ps5
Do you build once you've got your resources?
Looks a blast, looking forward to trying this out.
@JAMes-BroWWWn It ain't
This game is wicked good, it's too bad they don't (yet) offer cross-platform support as I'd have to make a whole new profile instead of just importing my hundreds of hours of PC progress.
@Kienda Not between consoles as of yet, only cross-generations (PS4 and PS5) and between Microsoft Store and Xbox (i.e. not if you bought it through Steam). The devs haven't seemed to have left cross-platform play off the table yet, it just months, possibly a year away
So from the vid I'm guessing it's 4 player and online only? I don't like first person but I'd be willing to give it a try for couch co-op. (Getting deja vu from that last sentence, still not playing anything, oh well)
@JAMes-BroWWWn no it is on Xbox Game Pass been on there a while
@PlatinumGamer no, you dump your gathered resources into your m.u.l.e. Once you've reached your quota, you hit the extraction button, you have a finite time to find the location of the escape pod and escape. Extract with your entire crew, get a bonus, etc.
This looks awesome! Can't wait.
Will this be a little like Destiny in that you just sort of jump in and play co-op with Strangers. Played a little of the original Destiny and enjoyed the non confrontational side of it.
@Abuncha_nada that's good too hear, seems like a decent month all round.
Looks even worse than the description made it sound. Thankfully the other two games next month are good.
“resource gathering” ?? i’m too dumb to play games like that but im keeping my expectations low for this game in hopes of jinxing myself
For those unsure it's basically L4D with No Man's Sky mineral drilling. You basically buddy up with 3 mates, dive down to a meteor, kill bugs, grab precious jewels, then reap the profits while the 4 of you get wasted on beer. It's hella fun trust me.
@Abuncha_nada thanks for the info.
Yeah, I play this on Xbox so I’m hoping there is cross play and cross progression at some point in the future.
