Want a loopy rumour to kick your week off in the right way? Warner Bros is allegedly developing a Super Smash Bros-style mascot mash-up featuring characters like Fred Flinstone, Johnny Bravo, Gandalf, and Shaggy. The game – apparently named Multiversus – was initially tagged as NetherRealm Studios’ next project, although gobby insider Jeff Grubb has since hit up social media to clarify that, while the title is apparently real, it’s being developed elsewhere.

He said: “This Warner Bros platform fighter is real, but it is not a NetherRealm game. Come on.” Obviously the VentureBeat scribe has a solid track record, so you can probably bank on the information being provided here.

This story started life on Reddit, where it’s claimed that the current roster includes the following characters:

  • Shaggy
  • Gandalf
  • Tom & Jerry
  • Batman
  • Fred Flintstone
  • Mad Max
  • Johnny Bravo

According to the leak, this project started life with the Ultra Instinct Shaggy meme, which saw fans reimagine the Scooby Doo star as a Dragon Ball Z character. He was later incorporated into the opening credits of animated movie Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, and Warner Bros liked the idea so much they decided to greenlight a mash-up brawler in the same style as Super Smash Bros.

Obviously, there have been a number of plays at the Nintendo fighter’s formula, including Sony’s own PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and the recent Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. None have ever really captured the magic of Sora Ltd’s series, though, and we’re sceptical of how well this rumoured cast of characters will ultimately come together.
