Not to be left completely out in the cold, the PlayStation 4 will also be treated to a new firmware update tomorrow. It is nowhere near as extensive when compared to what's coming to PS5, but Sony's last-gen console will receive a few new features. The biggest of which is the ability to view PS5 Trophy lists on PS4 hardware.
The one other new feature allows PS4 party owners to completely disband a party, circumventing the current need to remove players individually. And that's your lot! As the PS4 console generation continues to wind down, any new features will be at a premium. For information on what the new PS5 firmware update contains, click through the link.
Will you be viewing any PS5 Trophy lists on a PS4? Let us know in the comments below.

@BoldAndBrash It's a known problem for all PS4 models over time. Replacing the thermal paste usually CONSIDERABLY quietens them, though obviously that is not for the faint hearted and voids your warranty if you still have one.
I've done it to several PS4's - 2 of my own (launch + Pro) and a couple for timid friends - and it makes a huge difference. Not silent by any means but not a jet engine anymore. If you are interested best bet is checking out YouTube for a well rated "PS4 thermal paste replacement" video on your model to see if you want to try it. Best of luck.
@BoldAndBrash There's not TOO much that can wrong as long as you are slow and methodical. The PS4 is pretty modular. A few wires not to catch is likely the biggest thing to avoid. (Caveat: I've been taking tech apart for years, probably quite daunting for many)
Just find a good video, watch it a few times to become familiar then take it slowly, it might take you 20-40 mins first time.
PRO TIP: organise all the screws and pieces as you take them out so that you can replace them in reverse order. I put them on a piece of white paper and circle/number them in groups. Helps prevent the IKEA moment of having left over parts.
Good luck.
P.S. Alternatively just play with headphones... makes it whisper quiet without the stress! lol
Now if only we could see trophies the same way we do on PS4... The horizontal view is just horrible and inconvenient, having to individually select trophies just to read their descriptions is a negative IQ change.
@BoldAndBrash I'm sure you'll be fine.
Lastly also fully clean the heatsink of dust while you're taking it apart. They can get quite clogged up with lumps of dust depending on your location.
Good luck.
Thank goodness i got an SSD last week and put it in my console and it said take it out. I didn't know you had to have the Beta to put an ssd in to work. I felt sad but its great news Ssd will work for everyone.
@themightyant I was quite surprised by the amount of lumps of dust my Pro had sucked into the fan when I popped the lid off it a few months ago. A low speed hoover and a few alcohol dipped cotton buds and it was clean & the Pro went back to whisper quiet.
Seems Sony were too cheap to put a bit of mesh down the right hand side where the fan sucks the cool air in!
@sanderson72 The pro already has very restricted cooling, if it had a mesh would've been even worse. The biggest problems with Pro overtime is the low quality thermal paste. After 2 years you need to change it out with a good one, and you will see a really big difference afterwards.
@Gaia093 Apparently the new system update will also give us vertical trophies too, according to beta users.
@SilkySmile89 Perhaps I've been lucky then as my 3 year old barely makes a noise unless it's an intense game in which case it seems to step up a level to audible but it's far from a jet engine that others have described?
Also having an SSD in the internal slot may help as they run cooler than a spinning disc HDD.
@sanderson72
My new PS4 PRO is almost two years old now and is 100 times quieter than my original old PS4, it's also the newer model that Sony did something too to address the noise of the original PS4.
@banacheck Yes, I think they changed something with the cooling in the model that launched at the same time as Red Dead Redemption? I think the model number was 72xx series?
I think mine's the 71xx type so I'm quite surprised by the lack of noise. Certainly quieter than the old, original PS4 (shiny top one)
@KidBoruto That'd be great. I did hear that beta users have the vertical lists, but I didn't know if that'd get updated for everyone this time around.
I just realised you can delete 0% Trophy lists yesterday so got rid of a few games I never liked from my list. So many annoying games give you a trophy for playing the game for 5 seconds, though so still stuck with some.
@BoldAndBrash we also have to remember that the PS4, is running games that are causing high levels of clocking, and RAM usage, so if you are not using an External HD to take some of that stress off of your main HD, expect these things to happen. The best remedy to this is to play with headphones on, (noise cancelling) if available. I just consider this "setback" a part of new games and old hardware> Its not really a game changer for me...
@sanderson72 it depends on the model. pS4 Pro had already like 3 revisions. I have also SSD inside but still it's a jet engine. But I changed the thermal paste and it's just during demanding games.
