Horizon Zero Dawn just got a new update, but don't get too excited: it's just here to fix a few outstanding issues — particularly when playing the game on PlayStation 5. Patch 1.54 is just a small download, and its headline act is that it addresses some pesky crashes that can occur when the title's running via backwards compatibility.
It's nice to see that Guerrilla Games is still supporting the now four-year-old open world game, especially after Zero Dawn was optimised to run at 60 frames-per-second on PS5 back in August. Anyway, you can check out the brief patch notes below.
Horizon Zero Dawn Update 1.54 Patch Notes
- Fixed an issue where some cinematics did not have any audio on external audio devices when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode
- Fixed the FOV slider in Photo Mode
- Fixed several crashes when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode

I finished the game last sunday after starting when the 60 fps update was there. I had no crash at all actually. Although I had a lot of pop-in during cutscenes and so on.
Nice, I had a crash this past weekend - was worried it would corrupt my save file
Have replayed this lately on PS5 and am well into Frozen Wilds too. It just looks stunning, and the 60fps makes a world of difference. Really love this game.
Reported 1 crash the other day, perhaps it helped.
Not played it sinse I completed it on PS4. Might have to go through it again soon on PS5.
I encountered the audio bug..happy that is fixed..i have yet to finish frozen wilds.
I jumped back into this after the 60fps update, but sadly I couldn't finish it. The melee combat and stupid human AI stood out even worse, so I moved on to something else.
That being said I'm really looking forward to HFW, as I expect all of those areas to be improved.
horizon forbidden west wont be compromised on ps4 are the developer saying check out at Playstation blog
I’m replaying through it right now on ps5 and crash two times in a row.
Had a couple of crashes in my play through and then towards the end, near Meridian I found a consistent crash whenever I walked towards a specific area for a quest. It was very strange and the only way to avoid it was by going the completely opposite way to where I needed to go and to get there via a really long roundabout way. For a while I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to finish the game.
Hopefully this patch fixes it for others.
I was 8 hours into Horizon on PS4 Pro, but stopped playing as soon as I got my PS5. Currently 10 hours into Ghost of Tsushima, then I plan on going back to Horizon.. or FFVII Remake.. or Spider-Man Remastered.. or Demon’s Souls.. or Deathloop.. There’s just so much to play.
"Don't get too excited..." too late
Looking forwward to the 60fps patch and FINALLY getting round to Frozen Wilds
During the very final quest my copy crashed far too many times to even count.
But, fortunately the campfires are quite frequent, so it wasn’t a problem.
I also sent crash reports most of the time - so that might of helped.
Now I'll consider replaying the game on PS5 at some point before Forbidden West comes out. Even though I loved the game the first time around, there was no way I was going to play it on my PS5 with the audio glitch during cinematics.
@Atreus97 The combat was my favorite even one of the most fun i had so i cant agree in the slightest with you.
This game deserves a full PS5 release.
I was really disappointed with this game. Bounced off it after 5 hours. I thought the character movement was really poor and the combat didn't feel fluid. Also the quests were very boring with just 'go here kill 10 things' etc. Beautiful world though, and interesting story. I don't think it helps that I had just replayed Sekiro before this and the movement and combat in that game is transcendent.
Main thing I wish they'd fix in HZD is whatever's going on with the lighting - the brightness of the screen just seems to vary massively depending on what you're looking at. I know other games do this too (e.g. Assassin's Creed Oddysey, changes the brightness when you go from a light area to a dark area - presumably it's meant to simulate your eyes adjusting in the same way) and to some degree this makes sense but HZD just seems to do it way more than necessary, and at times it can be hard to see anything
