WWE 2K22 has been delayed until March 2022, as 2K Sports battles to get the wrestling series back on track. The annual series took a year off in 2020 after the disastrous WWE 2K20, and has now been delayed out of its traditional holiday slot. In a press release, the publisher said that the title has been “redefined from the ground up” and promised that it would “hit different”.

However, reports online suggest there’s a fractious relationship between 2K Sports and WWE right now. In an article published over the weekend, Sports Gamers Online claims that the two giants butted heads over the decision to delay the game, and the WWE has also threatened to work with alternative partners.

Regardless of whether that’s true or not, it’s clear from the outside that WWE 2K22’s route to market has been anything but smooth. The upshot is that additional development time should help developer Visual Concepts to avoid another WWE 2K20-esque fiasco, and hopefully when the game does arrive next year, it lives up to expectations.
