Last week's physical game sales were definitely a win for Sony, as the top three spots went to a trio of PlayStation exclusives — Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The news isn't quite as good a week later, but first party titles are still hanging among the bestsellers.
A dominant performance from Aliens: Fireteam Elite puts it right at the top of the pack. Interestingly, it sold best on PS5, with 42 per cent of the share. With this new release and fluctuating availability of PS5 stock, Sony's exclusive games have moved down the list. Miles Morales is in fifth, Ghost of Tsushima falls to ninth, and Rift Apart is now in 12th place. However, The Last of Us: Part II has reemerged to take 10th; Sony's games are all in flux, it seems.
Elsewhere, Marvel's Avengers returns to the top 10 in eighth, and Grand Theft Auto V is up two places in fourth. Nothing can stop it. It's best to just accept it.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.

Great to see a diverse selection of Playstation titles still making it in the top ten. TLOU2 is at a great price for people who haven't played that masterpiece yet!
They mostly come out in the top 10, mostly 😀
Damn wasnt expecting that! Its good arcadey style fun though
A solid 6/10 game. Sales reflecting how starved we are on the platform
"and Grand Theft Auto V is up two places in fourth. Nothing can stop it. It's best to just accept it."
😆😆
all this really proves is the lack of new games. got ps5 last week but part of me wishes i just waited till next year when more games are out
Well enjoy it while it lasts as I can guarantee it won't be too next week, infact probably won't even make top 10
Agreed with everyone saying that this list just proves that there’s been so few new games for these lists to really carry weight. Things should start to get more interesting in September though. It’ll be nice to see a more diverse (and fresh) line-up in the top ten
My copy arrives today. I’m excited to have some fun with friends.
This list is kind of pointless if it doesn't consider digital sales.
I would expect the majority being digital now.
@PaperAlien I like it also. It really seems to open up gameplay when you have unlocked the classes fully and have good enough gear and start tackling the harder levels.
It gets pretty intense on extreme.
@misak192 aren’t all of those digital statistics kind of skewed though? Like, I’m sure more and more people are buying digital in general (sales and dlc and whatnot) but I wonder how many people actually buy new games digitally on day one? Why would anyone buy a digital game for full RRP when you can usually buy the same game on Amazon for £10-15 less (usually)?
To be honest I find it hard to discern anything insightful from this list. Like what second place and below really mean? Head and shoulders above the rest? Or the best of an average bunch of game (by volume sold). Then again, I guess one can only really work with available data.
Hasn’t there been enough copies of GTAV sold for everyone on the planet at this point. Maybe it’s a money laundering scheme keeping it so high every week lol.
Its a good fun game, nice to see it doing well.
Did anyone expected this Alien game to gain success at start?
Seriously, who is still buying Minecraft on the Switch to get it to number 3 in the chart? Does it count bundles?
@uptownsoul Yep, Currys have them in for delivery - no queue or anything. No sign of the PS5 in the wild - in fact Currys don't even seem to have a placeholder for them??
@fR_eeBritney I would have been inclined to believe that’s true, but financial data reveals it’s not the case, and the average digital sale is roughly the same value as the average physical sale.
For example, in Sony’s last financial quarter they sold 71% digital games to 29% physical, which is 2.45x as many digital games as physical. The Digital games however accounted for 4.47x as much revenue as physical. Digital games are around 2x as profitable so that implies the average value of a digital sale is only slightly under the average physical sale.
Also another thing this highlights is just how little money physical games actually generates for Sony. Last Quarter Digital sales + DLC generated $3.2 Billion , physical Game sales generated $0.25 Billion.
@fR_eeBritney Depends on the ratio of the PS5 disc drive version vs the Digital Only edition for PS5 games at least. Anyone who bought the cheaper one doesn't get that option any more (which is why I'd spend the extra on a blu-ray drive one)
I usually find myself getting a disc for the Pro as new game discs are definitely the cheaper way to go and, of course, you could trade them in again should the hype outweigh the content!
F1 2021 is £60 on the PS Store, I got it on disc for £45. No brainer, really.
Where's Psychonauts 2? Was there no physical release?
Free DLC coming on September the 8th. For a budget game this totally delivers.
@mrtennis1990
Naah
wait for the Last of us part II dire cut version!
You know it's coming soon! Atleast around March 2022
@fR_eeBritney convenience, I guess.
@mrtennis1990 "masterpiece" LOL. only reason they're getting is cause it's dirt cheap.
Aliens is doing really well on Steam also (but not for me)
NMH3 is in nowhere land. They should have released on PC at the same time.
GOT: Iki Island is just fantastic. I have not taken this many screenshots in years! Sony has some really talented artist.
@mrtennis1990
Yeah, and that is the amazing thing about PlayStation. You have a fantastic library at just about every price point. Including the top 1st party games.
