Another big batch of PS5 Stock must have hit UK shores last week because the island's physical sales chart is suddenly dominated by titles available on the new system. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut debuts in first place, and Insomniac Games duo Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales take second and third respectively.
The enhanced PS5 re-release from Sucker Punch sold 91 per cent of its boxed copies on Sony's latest system, while the Lombax squad enjoyed a 105 per cent boost to physical sales. Miles Morales needed a 92 per cent purchasing increase for the web-slinger to claim bronze on the podium.
Another new release was Madden NFL 22, which entered the chart in 19th place. Sales dipped by 47 per cent compared to last year's launch week, but 81 per cent of purchases were for the PS5, PS4 versions (49 per cent on PS5, 32 per cent on PS4). Hades slipped all the way down to 23rd during its second week of availability, Marvel's Avengers rose to 11th thanks to its new Black Panther expansion, and Grand Theft Auto V held firm in sixth.

Impressive stuff... now we need info on upcoming exclusives.
Good for ghost (and ratchet ps5), I'm glad more player can experience the game
Jim ryan getting fired any minute now
Whats interesting the most is Madden:- 81 per cent of purchases were for the PS5, PS4 versions (49 per cent on PS5, 32 per cent on PS4). Do Xbox players just not buy games? This is a game that isn't on Gamepass and will be at least 9 months until it's added to EA Play. A system where no one buys games isn't sustainable long term especially when all those cheap Gamepass subs start to lapse and not get renewed. I know i'm not paying £12 a month for it when my cheap sub ends.
Good week for the playstation, definitely must have been some ps5 stock, whenever you see miles Morales in the charts. Been having a blast with ghost again. And did enjoy ratchet and clank but was a bit short but got it for 50 so not too bad.
@Smash41 It's probably 2 things:
Any one of those things wouldn't create such a big gap alone, probably.
Also for Madden specifically, we should probably be looking at US numbers
@Smash41 it will be interesting to see how long ms can sustain the gamepass. For me personally I probably won't re sub to it until I actually want to play stuff on it, I have 4 months to go and will have probably played everything I want too, still got fable and sunset overide to try, at the moment not much I'm actually enjoying on it. But I did buy Alan wake yesterday as I've heard that's a good game and wasn't on gamepass, so will give that a go.
@Smash41
If Xbox players stop buying games and only wait for games to be on gamepass, than some publishers might not put their game on Xbox if MS doesnt put out lots of money to have it on gamepass.
Seen that mentality on Xbox players that they will wait for games to be on gamepass instead of buying games.
Wow, I wasn’t expecting such a strong debut for Ghost’s Director Cut. And the longevity or R&C and especially MM is equally as impressive. Not bad. I do realize the data is only part of the story due to this being the physical sales only.
@Smash41 You bring up an interesting question. We praise GamePass as a real boon for the indie titles and online MP games it has which get the community buzz going to sell games on other systems (or once the game drops off GP), but you have to wonder if the few situations like this where new games don’t come to GP day 1 end up suffering on the Xbox sales-wise. I do agree that the US numbers will be a better indicator through.
Good stuff for Sony and well, they are all excellent games
The Uk is basically Sony Territory at this point.
Was there a big drop of PSs recently, or did Sony run a sale on spidey and ratchet? That’s a strange sudden jump.
That's quite impressive from Ghost. Didn't expect that to chart to be honest.
@4kgk2 Not yet. The switch has been dominating the charts for a while now.
Let's see how ps5 does when it's not constantly out of stock. I assume it will beat the switch, but not dominate the physical charts with so many Ninty evergreen titles .
@Neverwild @Daleaf @Smash41 I can't speak for the rest of the Xbox community, but I have Game Pass Ultimate and I still buy games for my Series X. I bought a physical copy Resident Evil Village on release day. Granted, it was the last game I bought on Xbox because everything else I have wanted has come to Game Pass.
I don't wait for a game to hit Game Pass if it's something I REALLY want. I think a lot of people still feel that way.
On the flip side, I have seen people here say "I'll wait for it to hit PS+" or "I'll wait for it to hit the bargain bin". So the mentality isn't exclusive to Xbox players.
I think mostly it's down to digital sales. I think Xbox gamers are just more likely to buy digitally. I do think the Game Pass mentality on the Xbox side has taken that "collector" mentality away from people.
Take Madden for example - I would bet that those with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription downloaded the full game trial from EA Play and then just simply paid for it to keep going instead of wasting time going out to a store to buy a physical key to unlock the full game.
With all the Day 1 patches games get these days, having a physical disc is almost pointless (I don't even know why I still buy physical at all). The only exception is the Switch as buying physically actually saves space on the internal storage/SD card.
Sure, I guess you COULD technically play without the need for a internet connection, but unless you already have that patch on your drive, you are stuck with whatever stock experience that game would be - warts and all. Better than nothing, I suppose.
On topic: congrats to Sony. While I am kicking myself for getting the PS5 upgrade rather than just getting the PS4 upgrade to Director's Cut, I am enjoying the Iki Island expansion. It's a well-deserved position in the sales chart.
People obviously buying the show-piece software to show off their new system.
I'm sure I'll buy Ratchet & Clank when I can be bothered to track down a (revised) PS5.
@Smash41 It's been this way for a while in terms of physical PlayStation sales in the UK. The theory is that Xbox skews more digital, but digital is also very popular on PlayStation as well.
I may be moving to the U.K. soon so my chances of getting a PS5 finally are looking up! Really surprised to see Ghost of Tsushima at #1, may have to pick it up for PS4.
Jim Ryan's kept the wolves from the door for another week.
@johncalmc his days are totally numbered. Poor guy. Hope no one's uncle who works at Sony reads those angry online comments or he's toast.
@mrtennis1990 that's dedication to get your hands on a PS5.
People love greatness. Word up, son.
GoT DC is simply phenomenal. I have spoken
@GamingFan4Lyf Well I have the series s just to compliment my ps5, and have had the s for a few weeks I did say that I wouldn't bother buying things on it just gamepass but have already bought deaths door (really good game you should give it a look) and got Alan wake yesterday.
I think you might be right in regards to Xbox players buying more digital games as they do get discounts on purchases on games on gamepass so ar more used to buying digital.
Yea I tend to buy my games new and very rarely wait for something to go on sale unless I have enough things to play already or if I'm not sure I will like a game and don't want to get burned.
is ghost developed by any sony devs though ? i only see 2 true ps exclusives up there . the rest is third party or nintendo.
give it time , 9th gen is barely started .
#fireryan
@Daleaf Oh yeah, Death's Door...and bought. See, everyone? We buy games on Xbox!
@GamingFan4Lyf haha, yea I'm on the last boss on it going to try and finish it tonight I think, Betty was a real pain was stuck on her for about an hour lol.
@nomither6 made by Sucker Punch.
N.i.c.e.playstation domination.word up son
@get2sammyb it’s is. But the split is greater on Xbox; like Xbox is very digital. When they factor in Digital sales, the gap for RE 8 dropped significantly.
The initial RE8 split was 80/20
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2021-05-10-resident-evil-village-is-the-third-biggest-ps5-launch-so-far-uk-boxed-charts
And here’s for the month where Xbox jumps 31% https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2021-06-09-ps5-and-resident-evil-village-dominate-may-uk-monthly-charts
Which is pretty a big leap.
Glad to see Ghost back on top.
GOT Iki Island DLC, is amazing! Anyone just getting GOT now on PS5 will have a blast.
The charts keep showing the same key point. The better the PS5 hardware situation, the more Sony dominates the charts.
Of course Sony dominates in games charts, no one buys games on pc and xb anymore.
Makes complete sense.
Facts > but but talk
I was glad I borrowed ratchet and clank, that was not worth £60.
Playstation is smashing the back doors in. Love my Xbox series X but it's all covered in dust from lack of decent games. Microsoft need a big stick shaking at theselves.
@ViolentEntity yea did give that a quick go yesterday, looks like fun. Lots of trial and error, think I will give it another go at some point when I'm in the mood for it.
How is GTA still in the charts 😁 Surely everyone has a copy now! Hats off to them, wow!
