Saints Row is back, and it's been totally rebooted. The new game takes place in a fictional American Southwest city called Santo Ileso, with an entirely new cast of characters. To be clear, this is still very much a Saints Row game; expect open world hijinks, run-and-gun combat, and plenty of daft side activities. The title's reveal trailer, embedded above, should give you a decent idea of the familiar tone that it's going for.
Saints Row is aiming for a 25th February, 2022 release date, on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Interesting! I don't love the art style (reminds me of Fortnite and Agents of Mayhem, which I thought they'd do everything they could to step away from) but I'm a sucker for this series so I'll be there day 1.
I think it's for the best that it's a complete reboot, where do you go after being the president of the United States with powers and having your own Avengers team?
The using a new cast is certainly a bold move, let's see how they are and how the game plays/looks first. Regardless is a day one for me as I love all the games that I've played.
Not sure about this. Came across a little too ‘try hard’ for my liking. I don’t know? Gave me Watchdogs Legion vibes.
I hate it already
saints row.. such rubbish
@Juanalf that and they literally destroyed the universe if i remember correctly
Lost all interest in the game after that trailer atlesst I'll save myself some money from not buying it
They ruined it... after so long of waiting they ruined it. And there's no Johnny Gat. This is not Saints Row at all.
As someone who's never played this series, is there a main draw that sets it apart from GTA? Sort of looked to me as if it were GTA made by Ubisoft.
@thechetearly yup pretty much. Don't bother. its worse in almost every way imaginable.
Hopefully they still allow you to create a character avatar as you see fit, as all of those in the trailer looked incredibly unappealing.
I like the music with the iconic legendary public enemy.but i dont know about the game yet.and who is actually the protagonist.word up son
the only good one was 2 and that was a long time ago, gameplay please 🙄
It looks alright. Yeah there's no old characters, but they all had a complete story arc. I wouldn't be surprised if Johnny Gat shows up like in Agents of Mayhem.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi there was a brief snippet of gameplay. It looks like something betweenSaints Row 2 and 3. Nothing as outright ridiculous as dildo bats though.
@thechetearly they aint great tbh..quite crude in its approach to humor although i must admit it was a first being able to use a 4 foot long dildo as a baseball bat to bludgeon people to death with..made me chuckle..
It doesn't look anything like saints row to me. I kept thinking of it like a heavily fortnite influenced game. I want mix of saints row 2 and 3. And the old crew back. The trailer just doesn't say saints row anywhere except the title.
@thechetearly I have had a lot of fun playing saints row 3 and 4. In fact these two saints row games is like GTA on drugs and if you don't take it for granted it can bring you some good time. Saints row 2 is much different tone to it and I guess it is just more serious tone to game all-around. Don't think I have ever played saints row 1
Game looks generic AF. Nothing special
You can’t really go judging this game negatively from a cinematic trailer, just wait till we see some more info and gameplay before writing it off. I’m really looking forward to finding out more about it.
The characters look like if YouTubers decided to be gang members. The game seems to have done a complete 180 from what the series is known for, being absolutely insane to going absolutely generic. Saints Row 3 was the perfect blend of the crazy and serious to me. Let me customize the look of all the characters in the gang and it might be bearable.
How can you have a Saints row without Johnny Gat?
I'd still get it though, just not day 1. I'm not sure how you can move forward in a reboot after being the president and fighting aliens...
Damn a lot of opinions already solidified just from a 2 minute teaser
@thechetearly
Back in 2008 with SR 2 is when the series peaked. It was still very much a San Andreas ripoff but the gang theme was fun and the gameplay at the time, especially the overall controls and gunplay, felt better than what GTA was offering. I'm not ruling out this game being decent fun but it definitely won't be setting itself apart from others in the open world genre.
@Bamila Saints Row 3 was brilliant. 4 was absolutely nuts 🤣 Can’t imagine anyone making a game like that ever again - especially now 👀 Really enjoyed Gat out of Hell too. I mostly loved how they didn’t take themselves too seriously. They were like the anti-GTA (when GTA went full on pretentious, drawing parallels with real life or whatever 🙄). Saints Row prioritised fun above all else. Running up buildings (before spiderman), super jumps, flying... It was unashamedly and unapologetically brash. Don’t like it? Don’t play it. Offended? Boo hoo. This reboot game feels like a completely different animal. Pandering much? Shame really.
I thought that the brief gameplay shown looked pretty good actually.
The cinematic doesn't have the edge or humour the previous games have.
Each Saints Row has reinvented it's tone - SR2 was gritty, SR3 was more fun, SR4 was totally insane. So I'll give this new version a shot. But I agree that it looks like it's been designed for the fortnite crowd, which isn't my thing.
Getting a mixed of 2 & 3 which is all I wanted!
Need to see a bit more before it's a day one but it's looking good.
@Logonogo Welcome to Pushsquare where all you need to know about a game is a picture and you become an expert on it.
The pre rendered trailer was underwhelming but that usually the case with pre rendered trailers.
the 30 seconds of gameplay that someone recorded off a monitor with a model 1 iPhone looks fun and very saints row.
While I love Saints Row I did not see anything in the trailer that said Saints Row at all. Lets hope they did not drop the things that made Saints Row what it was.
Ugh, the more I see it the more I cringe.
@Bamila VERY Fortnite inspired. Plus Ubisoft. It's not even Saints Purple, is more pink. The logo looks like it's from Walking Dead, it's not even the stylized tat/street art logo. GTA for Fortnite kids? Those kids would have a panic attack if they saw the crude humor of Genki Bowl!
@thechetearly It was the irreverent politically incorrect parody of GTA that never took itself seriously but always pretended it did. The hook was that it was basically mocking GTA and whatever GTA would do, it cranked to 11 and took out beyond the absurd.
THIS entry, though does indeed look like GTA made by Ubisoft. It looks horrible. At least as a saints row game.
@Logonogo presentation is everything!
Volition still can't design vehicles, even if their lives depended on it.
@Nepp67 nobody cares about Johnny Gat.
Nah seriously though, the best move for the Saints Row series would be to stop. They were the gaming equivalent of people who wear t shirts with "sassy" phrases on them, or people who use the word "banter" without sneering.
@ViolentEntity I’m from the future and the game stinks.
@Johnnycide you ain’t Lyin. Just stop and make something else.
@BrettAwesome underrated comment and made me laugh. 👍
This and Horizon come out in the same month.
Bad decision
I will still be willing to give this reboot a chance, but I do agree about it looking too different.
