The Touryst was spotted on the PlayStation Store earlier this week, essentially confirming the well-liked indie title will be booking a flight to Sony's systems soon. Now, developer Shin'en Multimedia has confirmed as much: it'll release on both PS5 and PS4, and the graphical output is rather interesting. As far as we're aware, this is the first example of a game supersampling from 8K on PS5.
That's not to say the game will output at native 8K resolution. While the game will initially render at that 8K mark, it will supersample the image down to 4K, which is what you'll see on your display. Still, this is the first we've heard of a game doing this on PS5, and it should make for one heck of a clean image.
As you can see, on PS5 there will be two graphics options: 8K supersampling at 60 frames-per-second, or native 4K at 120 frames-per-second. Either way, the game's going to look pretty darn swish on your telly. On PS4, you'll still be getting a decent picture; it'll hit 1080p at 60 frames-per-second.
The game itself is a sandbox action platformer with a voxel art style. You play as a blocky holidaymaker visiting Monument Islands, and you can engage in all kinds of activities. While there are arcades to enjoy and waves to surf, you'll also be unraveling a mystery about an ancient civilisation, so it sounds like there's plenty of adventuring to be done.
The Touryst launches on PS5 and PS4 on 9th September 2021. Will you be checking it out? Tell us in the comments section below.

We'll that's quite impressive.
Thought this look when I saw the trailer for its Xbox release, didn’t know it was coming to PlayStation down the line.
Looking forward to jumping in and testing the 8K
Interesting tidbit: this game actually runs natively at 6K on Series X at 60fps.
The PS5 version is a step up in native resolution - though I am not sure one would actually notice that much, this game is already super crisp.
That publisher also did amazing graphics work with their Nintendo DS and GBA games
BeastStation 5.
@GamingFan4Lyf that’s interesting.
I think it’s more and more clear that both consoles are so close together in terms of hardware power. Some games perform sightly better on the one system, some games are better on the other system.
Often XS has a advantage in resolution while Ps5 has a more stable framerate - both will be hardly noticeable with good upscaling and VRR.
Furthermore I bet all that I have that nobody will see a difference between 6K and 8K supersampling.
The endless discussion about frame rates and resolution.
It's all a balancing act. The original Super Mario Bros. could run at 32K and 480fps, but the game itself isn't demanding.
If you want certain games to be at a higher frame rate, a simple adjustment is to decrease resolution. Want high resolution and frame rate? Then decrease polygons, AI, or any number of other resources intensive operations.
For this reason there will always, ALWAYS be games where the developers elect 30 FPS, or a "lower-than-standard" resolution.
Shin'en does a great job of getting any hardware they work with to sing. Granted, this is hardly a demanding game, but they always put 110% effort into their games.
