It’s been quiet on the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy front since the game’s announcement at E3 2021 earlier in the year, but the title’s 26th October release date is Rocketing [Sigh – Ed] ever closer, so here’s a new cut-scene from the game. It features Lady Hellbender, as “the Guardians try to con her by pretending to sell a ‘rare monster’, either Rocket or Groot, depending on the player's choices”.
There’s no gameplay here, aside from one small dialogue decision, so don’t go expecting too much outside of a single cinematic. It looks totally fine, but the stilted voice acting don’t really do justice to the jokes, unfortunately. Nevertheless, this is small snippet from a much-larger game, so we’ll reserve judgment until Eidos Montreal has something more meaningful to show.

It's got that Marvel's Avengers thing where it's all high budget, but it doesn't look right. Weirdly lacking in personality. I don't know if it's because the films are the immediate comparison, or if the game's just lacking.
Either way, we need to see some more gameplay.
@ShogunRok I'm the opposite, it looks more closer to the comics and just has a more vibrant feel. Avengers had a too much MCU but legally distinct look to it. It won't be the most amazing game ever but I trust Eidos Montreal to make it worth playing.
@ShogunRok It’s a bit ‘MCU if you ordered it on Wish.com’. It looks alright but it’s never a good thing to have such a high budget reference point that literally everybody on Earth is familiar with.
I get that you can only play as Star Lord, but with how awesome Gamora looks and plays(it seems) I feel like that might be a big mistake to only play as Star Lord the whole time. Unless they are planning character DLC.
Also Drax is bland looking like crazy.
Star Lord looks like he should be saying Bro as one of his signature lines lol.
I don't know.... I may be kinda biased due to how much I disliked Marvel's Avengers, and that rotten taste is still in my mouth, but this cutscene had a lot of charm. I'm a little hopeful for it, but I don't trust it.
I do agree with @ShogunRok tho, I'd love to see a bit more game play.
@QBGaming12 They will probably be section where you play as the other Guardians. It's probably better for them to focus their time on one character and get him right then spreading development on every character.
@AdamNovice Yeah this is definitely more 'fun' than Avengers, even based on what little we've seen of it. A step in the right direction for sure.
@ShogunRok I feel the same way, its hard to disassociate from the films' cast since they were so good. I realize these characters existed way before and in different forms, but I never read much comics so the films are the way I imagine all these characters. Also weird that DC doesn't do this to me as I had so many animated DC shows etc so the live action feels weird. I feel dumb.
@PSoneboi I think 99% haven't read the comics, me neither. I can only compare it to the films, and it doesn't live up to it. Drax is extremely boring in this version. It's kinda hard to say how exactly they imagined the comic character, since that's only a visual medium, but either way I'm not a big fan. It's just not good acting or writing.
Am I the only one not excited about this?
@AdamNovice I somehow dig i want to see what they are going to do with this the Avengers game is something i hated from the start. And if she is the main baddy she is a big step up.
I think the bottom line here is that I hope they learn from the Avengers game flop. A focus so much on selling the game through branding alone will not work. Without solid story and gameplay design abundant with as much variety as the universe the source material lives in, these games are bound fail. Jokes and charm cannot make up for lackluster level design, poor story, or repetitive an overused gameplay elements.
However I loved the Deus Ex games, even with their shortcomings, so I think there is promise here, but without gameplay beyond the fairly lackluster bits we have see so far, I won't hold my breath on this one.
The first trailer really excited me, I didn't feel the MCU knock-off thing that other people got from it.
This one is not so good. The actually writing seems fine, and the concept is fun, but the editing is leaving massive gaps between every line of dialogue and it's missing background noise, which is ruining the scene
@b1ackjack I can sorta live with Quill if the writing is good. But Drax looks a little weird I agree.
I get that they're inspired by the comic looks with the bright colours, but the problem is that this game has a realistic art style. The bright colours clash a little with the realistic art style. If it had a comic art style (why isn't this a thing?), it would look a lot better I think.
@mrtennis1990
No, I had totally forgotten this even existed.
I just can’t get hyped about this game. There is just something not right about it all.
I was one of the 3 or 4 people who played the Guardians of the Galaxy Telltale game. As far as Telltale games, it was a middling effort, but it had loads more charm that this, even on that antiquated engine it ran on. Something feels flat about this clip.
I’m holding out hope and won’t judge the game solely on this piece though.
Fingers crossed the final product is better than what we got with this short clip...not impressed so far.
I know the Avengers hate train is still going strong, but its campaign was never one of its issues, so if this one is anything like the Avengers, I'm sure it will turn out great.
I can't wait for this
Call me crazy, but I have thoroughly enjoyed Avengers lately, and I look forward to this, also. Would be great if this also follows the quick price drop of Avengers, but I won’t hold my breath.
I like it so far. Dragon Age of the Galaxy
