It still feels like we're getting over the E3 period, and now Gamescom is mere weeks away. This year's major gaming events have been a little more splintered than usual, with Sony doing its own thing, E3 and Summer Game Fest vying for your attention in June, and then straggling publishers like EA and Annapurna Interactive in July. The show must go on, though, and Gamescom Opening Night Live is ready to roll on 25th August.
Geoff Keighley, who produces and presents the show, has shared his excitement for the event, which will be presented live, as is his wont. The hypemaster himself has given out a couple of details in a recent tweet, telling us roughly what to expect from the upcoming showcase:
Keighley states that the show will run for two hours, and will feature "this holiday's biggest upcoming video games and what lies beyond". So, basically like any other event of this ilk. It's not much to go on, but by the sound of it, major publishers will be taking part; whether Sony will appear somewhere in the schedule, we'll have to see.
We also now have a time. Opening Night Live will broadcast on 25th August at 11am PDT / 2pm EDT / 7pm BST, so it seems the show's largest audiences will all be able to tune in at a decent hour. Praise be to the Dorito Pope.

Nope. I already know it's gonna be another lackluster event filled with shooters, FPS and almost no variety at all knowing how this year's Summer Game's Fest sucked.
Meeeeeeeeeeeh.
Wake me up when Sony announce an event
Come on Sony its time to celebrate the great financial quarter and 10 million plus consoles sold with a event to get everyone hyped for the coming year ahead. With Microsoft continuing to gain mindshare and in the trenches doing so, silence cannot continue. Just my opinion though.

I know Sony won't participate but I really wish we get a new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI, either in this Gamescom or whenever the next state of play will be
It really can't be any worse than last year's, can it?
Maybe we can finally see theh new saints row game
Will Keighley be ritualistically sacrificing a goat to Hideo Kojima per his usual behavior?
I honestly don’t care, I’ll tune in regardless. They’re usually rubbish but I just quite like the fact it’s a yearly event.
Not sure what I'm hoping to see honestly. I'd imagine this year's COD would have to be revealed here not that I'm interested. I don't know. Here's hoping for some nice surprises.
Some first party ps5 exclusives would be nice seeing as though we have nothing from them to look forward to at this moment in time.
I think there is a chance that we'll see Elden Ring here.
Due to how lackluster this year has been, I don't expect a single thing from ONL.
@TeapotBuddha. Hahaha 😄 word up son
Not holding my breath for an exciting event...
Another event Sony won't attend because Jim Ryan is completely averse to sharing any information with us.
Oh, and speaking of not sharing information with us, at what point is Sony or Guerilla planning to confirm the Horizon Forbidden West delay? They sure as hell haven't denied it, which definitely suggests that it's true, and they've just allowed the rumor to fester for nearly a week. Might as well just rip the band-aid off and admit they have no exclusives for the rest of the year.
I'll pick through anything interesting after it's finished. I can't watch Geoff Keighley, dude creeps me out. There's something highly unsettling seeing a grown man who's dressed like a 6 year old at a wedding.
@playstation1995 Add some Legacy Of Kain remakes and this is perfect
@Keyblade-Dan. Definitely more remakes more better.a metal gear remake is happening.word up son
Opening Night Live is a pretty bad name.
Not expecting any 1st party Sony games in this but hopefully there will still be something cool for PS.
Idk why Sony was put in this article. They haven't announced ***** or even had a real showcase.
Are there any big games left coming out this year?
Feels like everything is inevitably being delayed until 2022
Can't remember the last time that Opening Night Live was worth watching, sadly. Hope this year will be different but I won't be holding my breath.
I have no dreams or hype, but will watch the recording after work to see if anything cool is revealed.

Cheers @kidboruto. It’s an impressive list, but there’s not many impressive AAA next gen games on there. With the exception of a couple, most are cross gen enhanced games.
Game pass is looking like the better option for this year
@pukana To each their own, I value and respect your different opinion.
