Update: As it turns out, these PS5 enhancements are actually being applied to the PS4 version of Sniper Elite 4 instead of Rebellion shipping a new native version. So instead of looking for a PS5 version on the PS Store, you need only download the pre-existing PS4 edition and ensure it's fully patched. Then you'll be ready to go with speedy load times, 4K resolution, and 60 frames-per-second. You're looking for update 1.18.

Original story: Rebellion's ball-busting sniping experience Sniper Elite 4 has been treated to a native PlayStation 5 version, available today on the PS Store. Those who already own the game on PS4 will receive a free upgrade, allowing them to access a 4K resolution, 60 frames-per-second, and faster load times on Sony's newest console.

When we reviewed the last-gen version more than four years ago, we awarded Sniper Elite 4 a 7/10, praising many of its features and mechanics. "Enormous, open levels augment Sniper Elite 4 with some of the best long-distance shootouts that the series has seen thus far. The under-the-hood improvements – paired with the idyllic Italian backdrop – do give this entry the edge over its predecessor, but if you've played one of these games before then you'll know more or less what to expect. Nevertheless, as far as ball busters go, it doesn't get much better (or wince-inducing) than this."

The game was included in the PS Plus lineup for August 2019, so there's a good chance you already own the PS4 version. After the likes of GreedFall and Final Fantasy VII Remake did not allow owners of the PS Plus version to freely upgrade to PS5, Sniper Elite 4 will. When asked on Twitter, Rebellion confirmed to us this is indeed the case. The official handle responded: "It will be yes."
