HBO has recruited another actress for its big-budget TV adaptation of The Last of Us, with the latest pick-up being Anna Torv as Tess. She is perhaps best known for her role in Fringe as Olivia Dunham, but has also appeared in more recent television shows such as Secret City, Mindhunter, and The Newsreader. Hitting much closer to home would be her role in PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavenly Sword, where she voiced protagonist Nariko. Torv will be a "recurring guest star".
Of course, the actress joins what is starting to look like a heavyweight cast. We have Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey playing the role of Ellie. Then there's Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Merle Dandridge reprising her role as Marlene, and Nico Parker as Sarah. Rounding out the cast, for now, is Con O'Neill as Bill, Murray Bartlett plays Bill's partner Frank, and Jeffrey Pierce joining as what appears to be a new character named Perry. In other news, the show itself is said to exceed the "eight-figure per episode mark", with shooting now underway.
Have you seen much of Anna Torv's past work? Do you think this is the perfect role for her? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

It funny cause Annie Wersching looks exactly like Tess 😂
Still find it so strange that Marlene keeps her role but others haven’t.
Anna Torv is a great actress anyway and Fringe was brilliant so i’m fine with this
Olivia Dunham herself? Great casting, I'm sure she'll be brilliant in the role.
Cool, I like her
Good likeness. I know that's not everything but it's definitely a plus.
She’s great in Mindhunter. Wish Netflix would hurry up and greenlight a third season. It’s probably my favourite show on Netflix.
@fR_eeBritney I'm not counting on it unfortunately
@fR_eeBritney Me too, it was superb and she was great as were most of the cast.
She was excellent in Fringe too but other than Mind Hunter I haven't seen her in much else which is a shame.
She was fantastic as the voice of Nariko in Heavenly Sword.
Wow! This is such great news. Love her.
Heavenly Sword, Fringe, Mind Hunters and Secret City - she was great in all of them. Brings the show up a notch for me!
Fair play to HBO, absolutely knocking it out of the park with the casting so far!
Really liked her in MindHunter, fantastic choice!
Big fan of Fringe here! Easily one of my favourite shows!
@ralphdibny Same here. There was something truly special about it.
I have all of Fringe on Blue Ray might be a good time to clear the dust on them and rewatch Fringe. 🙂
Great actress, and with brown hair can easily see her as Tess. Good casting.
BRING BACK HEAVENLY SWORD!!!
She was great in Fringe! I think she will be great in this role!
@Dobbos Fringe is great, highly recommend doing a re-watch!
I loved the series alot when it was fresh, but then dropped out after Season 4 for RL reasons.
Yes! Love her. Fringe is one of my favorite all-time sci-fi shows. This is shaping up to be amazing—don’t drop the fungus-flavored ball, guys!!
Loved Fringe. Im currently rewatching my box set at the moment Was such a good program that got dumped on by its network. So glad they managed to complete the story even if the last season felt rushed.
@Col_McCafferty yes, yes, yes! Wasn't excited for the great cast so far (eh), but this one did it for me.
@TheIronChimp yes, same here, so glad they managed to wrap it up. Awesome show with a stellar cast.
Mindhuter is so good! she is great in that hoping Netflix gets season 3 cooking ASAP.
I personally loved Fringe but I always found it funny that it avoided cancellation twice by Anna’s uncle Rupert’s company Fox! As a conspiracy theory about a conspiracy theory show goes…
@TheIronChimp the last season felt cheap to me. Their budget must have been tiny and it really affected the show
@naruball I know what you mean but I felt it did tie most of the loose ends up. Its just a shame the final season wasnt longer as i feel that this led to its rushed feel.
@TheDudeElDuderino
"Wasn't excited for the great cast so far (eh), but this one did it for me"
Sorry but that's completely contradictory. You say it's a "great cast" yet you're not excited by that great cast. What would get you "excited"? A wonderful cast? A brilliant cast? A fantastic cast? A good cast?
Dunham is a great actor and quite the catch for the show. Her addition to an already solid cast is welcome, I wonder who's going to be announced further down the road...?
Hehe "for now, is Con O'Neill as Bill Murray"
Dont remember bill murray in last of us but im game lol
@Profondo it goes like this and it's not that deep:
I can appreciate an actor's body of work or previous roles they did without actually liking them. I can find them even repulsive but still appreciate when they are good at what they do.
The so far announced cast doesn't excite me and some of the actors I can't stand. They are still great.
Anna Torv is the "I like the roles she did, I like her in those roles and I know she will be a great Tess, but honestly, I am simping, you could have put her in a rendition of the three stooges, AS ALL OF THE STOOGES, and I would still be excited...soooo "THIS DOES IT for me" 😂
She was fantastic in Fringe so no complaints from me.
@fR_eeBritney
Apparently the series is on hold right now. Shame i also wanted a season 3
@AhmadSumadi
I agree. Bring back Heavenly Sword
I always thought it was of the best looking games ever on the PS3, so a remake/remaster with modern 4K visuals would be stunning.
I mean, practically everything else is being remade, so why not?
@TheIronChimp yes, it most certainly tied most loose ends. It was a satisfying conclusion, especially the series finale. I just think it could have been much better with a decent budget.
