The next Pro Evolution Soccer game will be officially announced on 21st July, but an open beta test for a title named New Football Game has been released by Konami on the PlayStation 5 and PS4 today. Scheduled to run from 24th June to 8th July, the demo has been designed to “assess the stability and connection quality of our servers during online matches”.
No data will carry from the beta to the as-of-yet unannounced final product, and Konami stresses that “gameplay mechanics, balancing, animations, and graphics are all under development and will be improved before the official launch”. There’s cross-play between PS5 and PS4 consoles, although “only a limited number of teams are available to play”.
Pro Evolution Soccer, in essence, took a year off, with the title’s 2020 instalment being a Season Update – effectively just roster changes. It’s switching to the Unreal Engine for this version, and has had an additional year of development time. We’ve always felt that PES delivers a more authentic simulation of football than FIFA, so we’re eager to see what’s changed this time around.

I’ll have a look. PES has the better gameplay so it’ll be interesting to see what they’ve changed over this extra year.
The day before EA's event? Konami are having it!
RIP Fox Engine
I love football, even though I'm a Palace supporter, but I'm absolutely crap at football games.
@nessisonett Love the new avatar.
Everyone should watch Eraserhead at least once.
Konami is clearly teasing Silent Hill with PES.
Be warned, this beta is incredibly rough. I know nothing is even remotely final about the product but I can only see it doing more harm than good. It honestly looks like a PS3 game and plays appallingly. And I love PES
@Floki was thinking the exact same thing..
Apparently the beta is based on the mobile version and this is one of those legit betas where they're genuinely using it to test stuff.
Obviously I understand the need to test the game, but probably not the best first impression of next-gen PES for people who aren't aware of this.
@get2sammyb that makes a lot of sense. I really hope they knock it out of the park with the reveal
@get2sammyb Oh boy, guess I’m not having a look after all 😂
@hypnotoad just did a quick Google on Eraserhead now sounds good and David lynch film so should be weird lol, will try and give it a watch soon, I always think I've watched most good films from 50s-early 2000s but every so often some one says a film and never heard of it so always good to get a recommendation lol, although most new films these days are a bit rubbish there is still a couple of brilliant ones it's just sometimes harder to find them.
Played one game on the beta and yes it was awful. Hopefully Konami don't do a Konami and end up shooting themselves in the foot as usual by basing the final version closely on this.
I can see it now. Everyone's panic subsiding as Konami state this is not indicative of the final product. Everyone gets excited. Konami reveal a game that is a 1% better than what the beta was!
the rights to all the leagues still holds PES back, no matter how much better it plays than FIFA people will always turn there noses up at it because of it. I'd love them to announce they have the rights to use the Premier League completely in the next one. I mean it's easily solved thanks to sights like PES Universe but it would be nice to just have it in there from the start.
@nessisonett no it doesn’t 😂
PES does almost everything better, except gameplay.
Every time I try a PES game I always struggle to get past the poor presentation of the game.
From freezes every time it switches to a replay to uninspired dull block menus. It's just a real chore to get into the actual gameplay and even then the over-familiarity of FIFA makes it even harder to get into.
It's a real shame as FIFA has been as well
This is bad. I know it's a really early build, and some sources already reported the game's really improved in the latest builds... but what a terrible impression.
This Euros is definitely in need of some Peter Drury and Jim Beglin. Clive Tyldesley and Ally McCoist aside, i think the commentary from both ITV and the Beeb has been awful.
@Colletes - Sammy mentions above that this beta is based on the mobile version, not the PS4/PS5, and is mainly to test netcode.
@hypnotoad OK tried to find Eraserhead on Amazon streaming and few other places, it must be a cult film as I can only buy it on Amazon for 25quid or boxset of lynch films for 23 so might have to just grab the boxset which has twin peaks Fire walk with me which I haven't seen yet so started the series again lol, brilliant TV series hard to get into but amazing once you do, recommended to few friends but only a few could actually get into it and enjoy
wow, thanks for the tip. new engine news are exciting as well
