All Five Shantae Games Are Hair-Whipping PS5, Including the Game Boy Color Original

This better be a lead-in to Shantae in Smash! Haha

That's really dumb there's no collection, would seem far more appealing, and an easy $40 purchase for me

Sadly, this is probably the best way for an LRG newcomer to get these games physically, thanks to their unwillingness to reprint games.

Pirate's curse of one of those bizarre anomalies where the Switch lrg version is selling for hundreds or even thousands on eBay. No reason for it whatsoever other than it must have not sold many during the run window. I like to pick up the Switch games I want from them, but the prices and rigged scarcity is fascinating to me. It's all getting very close to NFT territory or even alchemy, turning normal material into gold. If the lrg guys have any sense they'll be storing batches of each game to sell on eBay a few years later.

I was about to add this collection to my buy list. What’s the point in making a PS5 port of each then?

I wouldn't, personally. I'd buy the Game Boy Color cart if I was collecting.

@Oval_Griffin I got mine a few weeks ago (gbc cart, that is). It's quite surreal finally being able to play the original on my old GBC.

The older game is best played on switch because the 2D graphics didn't looks good on big tv, I played the shantae gameboy games on ps4 and in the end I switch to playing it on nintendo switch. The newer game is best played on ps4 of course.

Should have sold it as a Shantae Ultimate PS5 collection before they all end up on Game Pass.

I’ve always thought about trying these games but, for what they are, they’ve always just been a bit too expensive for me to justify. Was hoping therefore that they would come to plus or ps now, but they never have.

I can't imagine what kind of PS5 upgrades these games will get, or even need really. That being said I do own Shantae & The 7 Sirens, and Risky's Revenge (I think that's it lol) so I'll take a free upgrade & have a look.

Just wish LRG got a UK/European partner. Shipping gets expensive.

Always want to give these games a go but they're ridiculously priced on PS Store at £35 I think? Never go on sale (apart from at the moment for the first time in years, where it's still £17).

I mean, a game like that, I'd probably be looking to spend no more than a tenner in a sale.

@wiiware I keep forgetting that game is a thing, given its Pirates Curse Part 1.

DSiWare was basically GBA styled games with a bit more detail tbh. Pirates Curse used the same art style too but that game is sooooo good.

It still surprises me whenever I remember that the original game was on Game Boy Color. It can't have been easy to get it running on that system, they went all out with it.

@Haruki_NLI I bought this on ps4 but I don't enjoy playing it on tv, the game isn't designed for 55inch tv. I bought this again on switch, I have better time playing it on switch screen.

Man nintendo should port all their dsiware games to switch, I remember playing wayforward alien games on 3ds, that's a good game.

@themightyant Is there a 7inch tv lol. But seriously though, gameboy/gb advance/ds/3ds 2D games is best played on portables, and the 2D graphics are still holding up too (on portables) 😃

@themightyant I usually don't have problem with 2D games that made with ps4 in mind because the resolutions is at least 1080p, but something like castlevania sotn, while really beautiful on my psvita, is just too pixelated on tv (playing on ps4).

I hope more games company port their 2D games to modern console using more modern 2D games engine, like squareenix with dragon quest 3 2D-HD, that game is gorgeous 😃

The shantae games are beloved by collectors for some reason. I guess that's why they can pretty much charge what they want for the physical versions.

I'll never understand why everyone is so obsessed with "collections". Why do you need them to release all the games in one package? All that does is benefit the company. I've already played all the Shantae games except the first one, obviously since this will be the first time it'll be on PlayStation. If this was a collection I'd be forced to buy a bunch of games I've already played just to get one game. Doesn't make any sense. And if you do want all of them, you're still able to buy all of them. Games should always be released separately.

@themightyant Yup, SE is weird but I like it. I don't think something like nier automata, a sequel to game that failed to sells, will be made under any other company. Also yoko taro rolling around saying s**t square enix is funny as heck lol.

@wiiware Square Enix is weird they sell games for the Switch in English on Playasia but remove the english in the PS4 versions why i dont understand.
