The Last of Us 2 PS5 Patch Out Now, Adds 60FPS Option

Perfect timing as I just upgraded my TV from 1080 to 4K OLED (Sony A8H).
So to see the game in UHD/60fps should be a visual treat.

Superb news. Give's me another excuse to play it again (not that I needed one).

A little to late for me after getting the Platinum trophy a few months ago, but a welcome addition none the less. I loved that ND added gyro aiming support to the game and hope more devs take advantage of it on Playstation. My girlfriend will probably be starting the game soon so I'll watch her play and enjoy the 60fps view that way 😌.

Still waiting for Death Stranding to get a update :-/ Not sure why Kojima hasn't done it yet for??? Very odd. Oh well. Still not played this yet to so cool anyway What about some really good Haptic feedback stuff to ND??? That would be AMAZING

i got the platinum offcourse but the grounded trophy was way to hard for me as i tend to kill everyone and don't avoid fights..

I was sort of between games, messing around between Jak 2, Jak 3, Thimbleweed Park, and Minecraft. I was considering getting Nocturne, but I wasn't sure that I would like it.

Then I saw that the PS5 patch of this game dropped and I decided it was finally time for me to play through this game a third time.

Awesome! I had started the game on PS4 Pro, but put it down for a bit. Once I got a PS5, I was waiting for a patch. Time to dive back into it.

Long time coming. Grounded play through for me sometime in the near future.

@themightyant I played through both TLoU:2 and GoT last year and both of those games jumped to my personal top 5 games that I have ever played in my life. You won't be disappointed.

Grounded mode it is then! Been waiting for this, it's been almost a year since getting the Platinum trophy too, so nice timing.

Also, it's good that they didn't try to charge for this. This is the kind of approach that makes me feel better about buying Sony games day 1 and goes a long way towards trusting that I won't get shafted as an early adopter of their games.

Il replay it one day. Probably when sony unlock the memory upgrade on the ps5. Maybe il be less depressed this time knowing whats coming lol

@Total_Weirdo Wut? Sony won't be at E3, and therefore, Naughty Dog won't be at E3.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm kind of torn between which one I like better between 30 fps or 60 fps. The 60 fps looks so incredibly smooth, but 30 fps feels so cinematic and fits the tone of the game so well. I'm just happy the option is available and that more people will be playing this game.

Why would someone want to drop back down to 30fps? Isn't the smoother experience the best one? Unless you can only this one at 4k on 30fps?

Hey Rob! I know I'm already in love with the game and characters (well, maybe not Yusuke) to the point that I keep playing P5 instead of Mass Effect LE (my plan was to put P5 on backburner once ME LE comes out).

Great news!! I stopped half way through my 3rd play through waiting for this update so will be going back to it shortly. Just need to get through HZD first! Actually screw that HZD can wait..

I'm currently playing last of us 1 for the very first time. Definitely gonna play the sequel.

Im ready for Factions, played the single player once and I don’t plan on ever touching it again.

I'm honestly just glad that a lot of people finally seem to have come around to this game.
It was so uncomfortable being one of the people that absolutely adored the game when it came out a year ago.

Glad I waited on playing the game in hopes of some sort of PS5 enhancement.

@gollumb82 Why would you want to finish quickly that masterpiece of jrpg goodness! I intentionally limited the amount of time I could play the game a day (both versions) to savor it more 😁

The patch is nice I guess but I'm positive there's a PS5 version with possibly great Dualsense implementation in the works so I'll wait for that to jump back in.

Just reinstalled game on my PS5. Oh wow. Toggling 60 fps on and off allowed me to compare and it actually is a world of difference. First time i have actively noticed a difference between 30 and 60 fps. Its very tempting to play again, but as i have a big backlog, i might just wait for factions to truly benefit

I'll buy it when it's next on sale then.

I played Factions on TLoU1 and l love the concept, but playing against 999 level guys is no fun, to say the least. Maybe if I could find a small group of guys playing on a dedicated private server or something. But Factions on TLOU2- I'm there Day 1

Yeah, I know Persona 5 is something of a miracle to me as I'm not a fan of jrpgs in general. However, I really enjoyed Catherine, so when I saw the same art style on Persona 5 I had to try it. Main theme of the game is my ringtone now, enough said

Good on Naughty Dog for offering more support on PS5. Hopefully that means we'll get a UC4 patch and maybe a full next gen port for TLOU2. And possibly a TLOU remake if reports are to be believed.

Switching back and forth, 30fps looks like stop motion in comparison. Defo time for my 2nd playthrough.

Too bad it's not an actual PS5 upgrade and it's only the Pro version with some enhancement. But it is better than nothing.

Sony needs to start giving us some more info on things coming this year. If GOW is delayed then delay it, when is Horizon dropping? Or is it delayed too? I'm starting to think that both may actually drop this year since we have almost made it to June and they haven't delayed either yet, but they have delayed other titles. Looking forward to Rachet and Kena, but want more info! Hopefully something will be shared soon.

So I wonder if that remake 'leak' was complete BS because I don't see the point honestly.

Nope, it's cool but I already wasted 30 hours playing this miserable sequel, the only way I'm replying it is if there's no story mode option and we can choose to play as joel and younger elly.

I waited for this patch! I did not play it AT ALL because I knew it would come.

Strange, I've just read on another site the patch adds haptic feedback support too.

It's a one-and-done game for me but I do think this great news for people who haven't bought the game yet or want to replay it. The PS5 handles PS4 backwards compatibility so well that I'd like to think it can mostly make 'remasters' obsolete. Performance and resolution patches are much less time and resource consuming.

Having played this on a base ps4 it feels and looks like a new game. No way this needs a remaster. Switching between 30 and 60fps is pretty eye opening.

As much as I disliked the story, time for another playthrough

I see the omission of "beating the game on hardest" on the trophy list, plus it being like half their usual ND trophy count has made a lot of people snag that Platinum easy, don't know if I'm impressed.

@MatthewJP it is pretty eye opening. I can't quite believe 30fps was that jarring on base PS4. I'm usually fine with games in 30 but switching between the two with this upgrade is quite telling. I suppose I could adjust after a few minutes if I had to.

I was curious about that, too. They are clearly meaning it is enhanced resolution over the standard PS4 experience.

@Old-Red I do wonder if its how the ps5 is handling backwards compatibility. I really don't remember it being this jarring (to quote you) when I played it last year on ps4. Had similar experience with ratchet & clank on ps5 until the recent 60fps patch.
I've not played that many games at 60 for that to be my norm.

Edit:when I got my ps5 I was midway through witcher 3 so transition from ps4 to ps5 to finish it and remember at the time thinking it feels a bit 'weird' visually

Sooo, another game optimized to 60 fps for PS5. So, there's no really any point to upgrade to the new console or an HDMI 2.1TV if developers are not pushing the technical boundaries...

Great News, I will jump on this again in the next couple of months. Does anyone know if a similar patch has been released for the last of us remastered? i.e. 4k 60fps.

@Old-Red enjoy, I found grounded to be the best game experience. I need to try complete a perma death run though, not full game though by episode.

@InvaderJim I'm playing it on grounded with permadeath per chapter. It's good, makes the whole thing really tense again. Highly recommended of you want death to matter.

Has this already got adaptive triggers for bows etc or might that be coming too?

Manage to get a PS5(after 6 months of waiting for a reservation in a local retailer) can't wait to play this again when it arrives in 3 days at home. Problem is I'm serving a 4 months contract on board a ship ) to wait will be brutal.

I doubt they would have worked on this patch if there was a native PS5 version in the works, that we all know would be charged full price as a 'remaster'.

I think Factions 2 will be a F2P game in all honesty.
Here's a direct quote from Naughty Dog on the matter;
"You will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambition, but not as part of The Last of Us Part II..."

I have been just thinking gut instinct would be that they’d have a PS5 version akin to what they did with re-releasing the first game, and that the MP would be included as incentive to double dip for those who played the game last gen. I figured that’s what was taking so long. If this patch is the most we’re going to get on the single player front, I might want to pick it up on the current sale.

The main rumour with Naughty Dog is they are working on The Last Of Us 1 remake for PS5 as a less stressful project to come to grips with the new hardware.
Factions 2 will no doubt be cross gen and possibly also on PC from what some rumours claim, which sort of makes sense if it does end up being a F2P game.
