Well, we don't think anyone was expecting this. Lies of P is a freshly announced, Souls-esque RPG that takes inspiration from the classic tale Pinocchio. Not the Disney movie — we doubt your sword-swinging escapades in this game will be accompanied by Jiminy Cricket.
Anyway, you can watch the announcement trailer above. It has a kind of Bloodborne vibe to it, with all those towering gothic buildings and streets littered with corpses. Taking place in the city of Krat, you play as the puppet/mechanoid Pinocchio, with your main goal being to reach Mr. Geppetto and become a human.
What's most interesting about this is that lying appears to be integral to certain quests, and will affect the ending. "Experience interconnected procedural quests that play out depending on how you lie. These choices will then affect how the story ends," reads the blurb on the game's Steam page. You'll also be able to combine weapons in various ways, and replace parts of Pinocchio's mechanical body to enable new abilities. We have to wonder if his nose will grow and you'll be able to detach it to use as a weapon.
The game is planned for a release on PlayStation 5, but there doesn't appear to be a release date of any kind. It might still be a ways off then, but we're definitely intrigued to learn more. What do you think of Lies of P? Wish upon a star in the comments section below.

Plot twist, your PP grows instead of your nose.
Intreaging for sure. Will be watching news on this one.
That's one creepy version of Gepetto...
Souls-like .... well maybe worth trying...
This trailer is hilarious. I love it.
Despite what is an egregious name, I'm excited to see a macabre souls twist on what is, undoubtedly, already a dark tale. Here's hoping the NPCs fit in with some of the original tale too. Looks like it might be worth it.
Oooooooh that's a fantastic teaser. And yeah those streets look like they're ripped right of Bloodborne
I'm in. Looking forward to hearing more about this one
Very nice trailer. On the list to keep track of.
It seems every day I come to check the site there is something new I want to play - great way to start the morning 😀☕🍩
Oh, great. Another Pinocchio-Inspired Souls-Like Action RPG…
If it wasn’t a Souls-like, I’d say I’m interested.
Souls like? Hard pass
Outriders, this game, returnal and deathloop all could have been great but they ***** it with stupid gameplay elements and I won’t be buying any of them. Bring on Far cry 6
Sadly found that uninspiring but its didn't show anything of the game at all really. Will revisit in 2022 when we get to see more.
@ElMarko I like both but giving Farcry 6 as the holy grail has to be a joke. 🤨
I'll pass. Does not look fun to me
@Flaming_Kaiser yeh it’s far from that. Just the next good one that’s on the way
I am intrigued by this.
Without seeing any gameplay, tough to get too excited - but I like the vibe.
Who else read the headline as Life of Pi?
The voice acting is hysterically bad.
Yea, no thanks... I miss being excited by game trailers. There's only 1 game that I'm genuinely anticipating at the moment. Everything else is just meh... I hope E3 season changes that!
The narration was a little wooden but this could be a whale of a time.
@huntbearpig I did. One of my favourite books. 🙂🙂
What the hell did I just watch?!
Yeah, that definitely ain't the Disney version.
Interesting though.
A Pinocchio souls like. Such a silly idea is very welcome. It just looks so extra edgy and weird. Pinocchio looks unexpectedly cool and the voice acting is extra cheesey. I'm very hype for this. I'm down for anything that dares to be different nowadays.
What!?
Weird!
I'm interested.
I swear I saw this as "Life of Pi" and was hoping for a raft-bound souls-like.
Well, the one time I played Bloodborne I made my character literally look like a wooden faced guy with a super long nose and kind curved out cheeks, so this won't be too different haha
This sounds weird and exciting! Don’t care about the name, as long as the gameplay is solid I’m in.
This looks gorgeous and very Bloodborne looking (which is a major plus in my book). The aesthetics of the game world are accordingly inspired by the Belle Époque - a French and European period that was characterised by optimism, regional peace, economic prosperity, colonial expansion, and technological, scientific, and cultural innovations.
All that alone piques my interest and makes this a must have for me. Hopefully the gameplay will be as deep as how the story looks...
@ElMarko I hope so the more great games the better.
They had me at the hilariously dumb title and "Dark Pinocchio", but lost me at a Souls-like.
Keen! Always up for souls like games. Really enjoyed Mortal Shell. And it will a while before Elden Ring gets released
word life.word is bond.word to your mother.WAKE UP SON!
I’m an easy mark when it comes to something that is so clearly inspired by Bloodborne... I’m gonna keep an eye on this fo-sho (my other eye is on Black Myth Wukong).
Hopefully easier to play than most Souls-esque games though. I'm usually terrible at those, RIP.
