It's been over five months since the release of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 4, and the game's still missing from the PlayStation Store. It was removed just ten days after launch, back in December 2020. But is CD Projekt Red any closer to seeing its game be reinstated on Sony's digital marketplace?
Based on recent comments from CEO Adam Kiciński, the situation still hasn't been resolved — although talks between CDPR and Sony are apparently ongoing. "We are still in discussions and with every patch the game gets better and there is a visible progress, but as we said the decision is an exclusive decision of Sony, so we are waiting for the information about the fact that they took the decision to bring back this game," Kiciński stated during the company's latest shareholder meeting.
A couple of months ago, CDPR said that Cyberpunk 2077 was "closer" to a PlayStation Store return, and the company claims that's still the case. "We do believe we’re closer than further, but of course the final call is [Sony's], so let’s wait and see," said SVP of business development Michał Nowakowski.
It's been several weeks since Cyberpunk 2077 received a patch on PS4, and although the game's in a much better state now than it was at release, there's still a lot of room for improvement. We imagine that Sony will continue to monitor the situation as future updates drop.
This saga just keeps fumbling along, then. Do you think we're close to another Cyberpunk patch? Take bets on when you think Cyberpunk 2077 will finally return to the PlayStation Store in the comments section below.

Assuming if the dev is making comments that a patch is around the corner to make their case. It’s been a very long and disappointing period of silence since the last one.
I’m still excited for the PS5 next gen package for Cyberpunk. I’m going to keep my high hopes for it until V has an arm missing, cars fly and sex scenes defy all gravity through glitches when it finally releases.
@AchievingGamer that wouldn't be fair to everyone that bought a PS4 version & didn't get a refund
Waiting for the native PS5 release at this point , so probably at the end of the year which is fine so I have something to play this winter .
Never. PS5 release only. And a free upgrade for those who have the original release.
I sold my physical copy and waiting for proper PS5 release. Somewhere in the middle of 2022.
Not complaining, but Sony is making an example of CDPR.
Sony wants to make damn sure that no Developer pulls this crap again.
This game won't be truly complete and finished for years (like Witcher but much worse).
@Blacksmith1985 I agree. (Luckily, 9th gen version is free for 8th gen owners). I'm not touching CP 2077 until the fully patched PS5 version with all free and paid DLC is available.
In all honesty, the game’s not that great, even if it ran smoothly. It’s still a 6/10 game at best. It’s fine, but given all the hype. Fine really isn’t good enough.
Jesus talk about flogging a dead horse...why not report on this when its actually in a state sony deem fit enough to be sold via the store..this game has had more articles on this website than any other game i can think of...hows about just moving on...
Lost any interest I had in this a long time ago.
Might be nice if Sony adopted this policy on a wider basis, given the state of some games at release these days. Might actually encourage developers to test properly/more thoroughly before release, like they used to... and publishers to stop pushing them to rush things.
It's great that they now have the ability to patch bugs post-release, but it's also a development that is roundly and widely abused to foist unfinished products upon us.
The foreigners i been waiting for a game like you to come to my life.oh wrong stuff.sony aint playing.word up son
I'm sure it'll be back as soon as CDPR agrees to make it a PS+ game without Sony having to pay them for it.
Are patches still coming? Everything has gone very quiet recently.
Who cares?
If you're desperate to play it, go pick up a physical copy (sorry, PS5 digital-only owners) and give it a shot.
I'm going to wait until the PS5 version is on sale for $20-30, even if that's in 2023 (though I'm willing to bet I won't need to wait that long). I will not reward this behavior. I'll give them a little sustaining revenue when they've moved on to work on the next thing, and hope they actually learned their lesson this time.
The fact that 5 and a half months AFTER it launched and it’s still not close to being done nor has there been a current gen release is an absolute indictment on CDPR as a company. What they did is inexcusable and I hope they go under as a result. ***** CDPR, ***** them in their stupid asses
@somnambulance I haven’t played it yet myself, but everyone knows it’s not meant to be a console game, especially last gen consoles. This is a PC experience, so unless you played it on a decent enough rig I don’t see how you could adequately judge the experience aside from criticisms with story and objectives.
@2cents it was absolutely meant to be a console experience and absolutely on last gen consoles. They specifically made versions for all gen consoles. There’s no debating that fact. You couldn’t be more wrong
I’m hoping this is a No Man’s Sky situation where they can eventually deliver the game that was promised. If they’re able to do that, I’ll pick it up on PS5, assuming the native version is out by then.
@Northern_munkey Probably because it’s a huge tent pole game that people are still interested in. As long as a site is getting clicks and comments on a game, they’ll release news if and when there isn’t any. If you’re truly tired of a specific game the last thing you want to do is click and comment.
@2cents "everyone knows it’s not meant to be a console game, especially last gen consoles"
This is an absurd thing to say. It released on consoles, specifically the PS4 and XB1, so it is obviously supposed to be a console game. And the ONLY consoles it released on are last gen consoles. I get that this hasn't worked out, but if they especially aren't supposed to be last gen games this games wouldn't exist and a PS5 version would.
Quite a few people seem to think that Sony removing Cyberpunk from the PS store will help teach CDPR a lesson about releasing unfinished, bug filled games. Unfortunately, I think the lesson to be learned is that you can still make a fortune from releasing unfinished, bug filled games, even if you have to provide refunds for a vocal minority. Could they have made a bit more if Sony hadn't removed it from the store? Probably, but when you're already talking about enough money to swim in à la Scrooge McDuck, I doubt that it's going to keep any of CDPR's executives up at night.
@Northern_munkey Is this deja vu or did they also doa "It's been 4 months since..." article too? It's not even news.
It's like reporting every day that the sun hasn't died out yet.
Cdp should just give up the ps4 version and focus on ps5 version.
@Amnesiac I think the long term ramifications are still pretty mean, though. Think about it, how many major game companies have gotten the embarrassing honor of getting one of their games kicked off a major platform for quality reasons?
While it's true they've made a lot on this game, they've now had five months of losses on a potential revenue stream. More importantly, their torpedoed reputation will affect how the public reacts to whatever their next game is, and I'd wager that's where we'll see the effects of this disastrous launch.
@2cents Played through the game on Stadia. Didn’t have any technical issues with the game, except that one time when a gun got stuck in Jackie’s forehead when he was dying. No crashes, no stuttering, no game breaking bugs. Honestly and seriously the game feels like a lesser Ubisoft open world game. It was short, very “go to point B,” the story was meh, and the characters were ok. The whole game was just very, very ok. It’s nowhere close to the bar Witcher 3 established for CDPR.
CDPR made Sony look bad and brought their horrible return policy into the light. These big corporations hold grudges and I personally don’t think we’ll see it until next year on the PSN Store, either version.
@Omniicron exactly..report on the game by all means but when its the same story over and over whats the point? Surely there is other news?
@GamerDad66 wait... sony is the one who allowed this ***** fest of a game pass certification in the first place. both, sony and microsoft, are partly responsible for cyberpunk being released in its current state. had the platform holders did what they are supposed to do during the cert process, cyberpunk likely never would have released when it did and the entire narrative around the game could have been different. they allowed the marketing and hype machine get the better of them... no different than how the hardcore/blindly loyal gaming community will throw their money at almost anything these days so long as there is a good trailer to bait them lol
@SwitchVogel You raise some good points, but I get the sneaking suspicion that many of the folks who made these questionable business decisions will have moved on to create short term profits and long term disasters at other companies by the time CDPR launches its next big title.
Apart from digital ps5 owners, it's not like you can't buy the game if you wanted to.
They'll be back!
I'm betting it will be back on the PS Store in December of this year.
Got my platinum, we good. =]
@ElMarko if you can’t understand the nuance in what I said there’s no intellectual or interesting conversation to have with you regarding this
@ackbar7 way to completely miss the point of what you read. As if I’m arguing that consoles versions don’t exist... geez I can’t even begin to have thought provoking discussions with such a literal point of view
@somnambulance absolutely right the bar was set higher than high for this one and last gen consoles were never going to keep up with CDPR vision. I’m fairly certain that’s their biggest regret as a studio, trying to release Cyberpunk to the masses who own last gen consoles and please everyone, because effectively they pleased nobody. Stadia sounds like an interesting way to experience this game though as you aren’t the first who told me it ran well
I gave up on the game, haven't even finished it yet. Maybe the DLCs will bring me back but this game is just so mediocre that I regret buying it. Not even the good story saves it for me.
Anyone think this might come to PS PLUS for a month when Next Gen upgrade is available, as the games made its money
@2cents In all honesty, I could say that Stadia is a great “console” for what it is, but it came at a weird time and the controller was instantly dated with the next generation. Biggest problem with Stadia is that it never established any legitimate exclusive content. It is probably the best place to play Destiny. I tried it with an open mind and I was happy with what it could do, but it didn’t stop me from getting a PS5, so there’s that.
If I was a betting man, I’d bet that CDPR cut a lot of content on the game to release it when it did. They simply announced the game too soon, built the hype up too much, and paid Keanu Reeves to make the game look bigger than it was. Seriously, I like Keanu, but he sticks out like a sore thumb in the game. I really wanted to like the game, but the whole direction of how they framed the game was all wrong, unless, like I said, significant portions of the game were chopped, so it could release at all. It’s a rumor that I’ve seen and I only believe it based on my experience with the game. I was almost halfway through the main story and I was questioning when the tutorial would wrap up, and I looked that up and that was the first groan I had about the game. When I finished it, I was like “yep, made it to objective B on my fetch quest to finish Cyberpunk.”
As already said get the PS5 upgrade version out ASAP!!!!!!!!!
@Luigia well considering the game hasn’t made its money on PlayStation stores yet, as it’s been missing longer than it was available, I can’t see Sony wanting to pass up on the potential sales that bringing it back would provide. CDPR might not care because as you’ve said THEY'RE SWIMMING IN CASH... but Sony hasn’t bled that well dry yet.
@2cents there’s no nuance involved. It’s a fact that it was designed to play on last gen and current gen consoles. You said it wasn’t meant for them, and clearly it was. End of discussion
Still waiting for that Native PS5 version that will come.............eventually.
@ElMarko there was clearly no discussion to begin with, and you apparently can’t read because I only said it wasn’t meant for last gen as there is no current gen version to date - which only proves my point. Way to represent your avatar!
For those waiting for the native ps5 version, what exactly is it you are waiting for? It'll be the same game, just with some nice shiny graphics. The story will be the same, the game mechanics will be the same? Seems like people are expecting miracles and hyping up the next gen version. It plays perfectly fine now on ps5, 60fps
@2cents it was meant for last gen. The simple fact it was released on last gen rather obviously and undeniably proves that fact
@AchievingGamer I'm on PS4 Pro and it's very playable. The city itself, the verticality of the structures in it and the atmosphere surrounding it is truly something to behold, especially at nighttime. The game has me in it's grip for months now and i still haven't finished it. The missions, characters, and basically overall gameplay is fine, nothing really innovative but familiar if you like games such as Deus Ex, Far Cry and GTA. Still plenty glitches and bugs but not as annoyingly present as half a year ago. The crashes have dissapeared completely, at least on PS4 Pro. AI is still weak and texture pop in also present, but not on 'ruining the experience level' for me. It's a pretty deep experience with lots of things to track, try out and experiment with, a GTA feels simplistic and linear in comparison. The world itself lacks the attention to detail GTA has.
If you like Far Cry's gameplay, mixed with Deus Ex, GTA, a grain of Fallout and even Mirror's Edge, purchase is justified for sure. Base PS4 seems to struggle a lot more with rendering chunks of environment and keeping the framerate steady, so Ps4 Pro or PS5 are highly reccomended!
Don't believe the hype, nor the bashing, and you'll find a decent game in the middle.😉
@somnambulance More like a 7.5 to me, but hey, nothing as subjective as your own opinion.
@ElMarko It literally needed to be downgraded in both major updates they released to have a stable 30 fps and it still doesn't have a stable frame rate. Meaning they have to downgrade it further.
Even after performance is better, which it's still not, the aspects of the game aside from the mediocre story are terrible. Worse than ubisoft level of meaningless and dull icons to chase on a map. A huge step down in quality of content and gameplay compared to the witcher 3. For a game that long in development to release broken, amidst lies, and even on a gameplay level such a mediocre experience, it speaks volumes to the priorities and terrible operating structure of cdpr.
@Trousersnake I can respect a 7.5/10 for the game. I liked every game you referenced in your post better than Cyberpunk though.
@Nepp67 the definition of meant is intend to occur or be the case. Clearly they intended for it to occur or be the case that the game is for play on last gen consoles since they released versions of the game for last gen consoles. This is fact, not opinion
@GamerDad66 Its about time they did this.
@Trousersnake Are we praising a game for not crashing now wow the standards have gone down the toilet.
I dont care its playable now they should have never pulled this crap and im glad they got the full rath for it. 😁
@ElMarko And yet it wasnt meant for last gen, stop the *****. The proof is literally on the last gen systems.
@Nepp67 again, yes it was
Cdpr: can cyberpunk come over and play?
Sony: no! Cyberpunk shined a glaring light, on our abhorrent return policy!
Cdpr: please?!
Sony: we'll see..
"If you buy a game at launch, you are paying the most amount of money for the worst version of a game." -TotalBiscuit
@PhhhCough Sure, let's blame Sony for this. Not Cdpr.
@The_New_Butler CDPR did everything in their power to limit refunds as much as possible and shift the blame of their broken game on Sony.
If they stick the next couple of patches on the CD then i'll get a physical copy but there's no point doing this and having to rely on huge downloadable patches for it to function. As soon as the patches get wiped the game is bricked.
@The_New_Butler typical ad hominem instead of replying to the point I raised. I've criticized Sony countless times, but that doesn't fit your narrative.
I've asked for a refund 3 times and got one each and every time. If you think it's not worth a dime, then that's just your opinion. I'm satisfied with it and find it reasonable. I could make a list of the things Sony could improve upon. Their refund policy isn't one of them (I understand it is for others, though).
While I loved the Witcher3, I didn't care at all about Cyberpunk2077. I didn't have any interest to play it. I didn't have any interest to buy it.
When it was released though, I didn't expect it to be the complete technical mess that it was, so I was very glad it didn't appeal to me at all.
I know Rockstar has been doing it longer, but it is absolutely jaw dropping to see that not only did the PS3's GTAV had a better functioning, less glitchy open world, but so did GTA4, and even the GTA series on the PS2!
And now.. does anyone care about Cyberpunk? Does it matter if it comes back to the store? I don't think anyone says to themselves "I would buy Cyberpunk if it was on the PSN store."
@The_New_Butler I don't know if it was your intention to run in to defend CDPR as a savior in this mess by offering refunds "unequivocally"', but nobody should be defending these jokers who released this joke of a game to their victims. Yeah they offered game refunds, but it was that because they faced one of the biggest gamer backlash in gaming history and their shares were tanking.
They sold a bill of goods to gamers and they absolutely deserve to be hammered for that. Agreed that Sony's refund policy isn't good, but nobody should be defending CDPR here.
I like it, I'm 70hrs in with a female (the voice acting by the actress is much better than the guy) katana/hacker build and with mods on speed and double jump I can decapitate half a dozen enemy's in less than 10 seconds.
So having fun!
Hopefully it will never be returned to the Sony store. It doesn't deserve to be returned. The devs have given up on trying to fix their broken and unfinished game and are leaving it to modders to address remaining issues, even re-enabling disabled and cut content.
The devs and their employers have been amply rewarded enough for their misdeeds and should not be able to garner more revenue from such a shameful and botched release. It was bad enough to watch them brag about how much money they'd made from the debacle and to further brag about their bonuses for releasing said crap.
It's a damn disgrace that reputable web sites would do well to distance themselves from when it comes to continued press coverage of anything having to do with either the game or the company itself.
@Party_Cannon I still continue to ask anyone who defends Witcher 3 — what is it exactly that you love about it? The many mods that fixed nearly everything that was broken about it or the vanilla version that nearly everyone recommends against playing?
@Deanster101 You should realize by now that the physical copy of any game is pointless nowadays since that copy of the game is generally so outdated as to be completely unplayable.
The Gold certification is based on that version and we all know just how broken and flawed it was on release. Any game currently on a physical disc merely triggers an online download of the actual game files so that the physical version is just a place holder for the digital online version and completely superfluous.
There are several excuses used for this, of course. One being that the installation copy would occupy too many physical discs and in order to reduce costs, what comes in the box is merely used to verify a legit purchase of the game but it absolutely requires the online digital download to fully install the actual game itself.
@Deanster101 You're more likely to see working patches and fixes from modders than the devs since they are incapable of doing it themselves. I'd even wager their employers aren't very keen on ensuring real updates and patches that work since they know the modders will be doing all of that for them for free.
That way, the modders do their jobs for them, while they are free to spend their bonuses for selling their broken game and can get on with trying to push out the next Witcher game. And slowly the law suits will drop off and the investigations vanish while they continue to count their money and laugh all the way to the bank.
@Nepp67 It was broken and unfinished on ALL platforms. It simply was even worse on last-gen consoles despite CDPR's public assurances to the contrary.
@RubyCarbuncle Only if some modder does it for them.
@Porco It is precisely that Gold certification that really needs to be called into question. It is unconscionable that the game in the state that it was in when released could or should have ever been deemed "ready to go."
@Robinsad The modders can only work so fast. They're leaving it up to them to finish and fix the game for them. Why should they bother when players flock to mods and load up on them to get close to the game they want to be playing. Case in point: The Witcher 3. The same damn thing happened there.
Nearly everyone swears by using 30+ mods in order to get a fuller, more robust and enjoyable version of the game to play and most wholeheartedly recommend against playing vanilla at all costs.
The very same will happen to Cyberpunk. Modders have already dug deep into the game code and brought out cut content, missions, options and fixed a lot of issues in the game that the devs were incapable of fixing themselves.
So, CDPR is currently too busy with spending their bonuses from high sales of their broken game and leaving the chore of fixing it to the modders while they make their grandiose plans for the future. Sadly, none of them include actually learning anything from past mistakes or even a glimmer of hope of any humility for their disgraceful behavior with their game.
@Amnesiac Sony's decision was meant to limit their liability in having to do refunds for the game when sold on their store. That's it. They know fully well CDPR will learn nothing from this just as they know they took money under the table to give the game Gold certification when they knew fully well how broken and unfinished the game was prior to launch. They are just as culpable as CDPR for marketing a botched game but Sony chose to wash their hands of the refund issue before they got sucked into a black hole.
@GamerDad66 Then maybe they should look at their Gold certification process since they deemed the game worthy of being in their store in the first place when it was a raging disaster on launch.
At the very least, I do wish web sites such as this one would cease posting articles about CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077 when they have nothing concrete to report. They're just rehashing the same crap and trying to keep a spotlight on both the game and the company when neither deserve any such attention.
@BradT This is why i'm not collecting anything beyond ps2 era, i hate all this download nonsense but i guess its good for the planet.
@naruball not blaming anyone. Just imagining how conversation would go, between the two corps. Also, cdpr rushed a game, out that wasnt ready; sony, and others I'm sure, have a bad return policy. It is, what it is.
@BradT And again with it being broken and unfinished they still have to downgrade it even further to have the game reach a stable 30 fps. It is not made for last gen and shouldn't have been. PC was at the very least stable in some cases which is why it got higher scores.
