This bit of news sort of slipped us by last week as we searched for definitely-not April Fools news. We'll admit to being certified Slowpokes in this case. Still, in case you hadn't heard, Sol Cresta is currently in development at PlatinumGames.
The Japanese studio "announced" this shoot-'em-up title last year on 1st April, but it turned out to be a holiday hoax. However, the game is now in production, and will be released later this year on PlayStation 4. It's a follow up to Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta, shmups in which you command three ships, having them fight the baddies in various formations, or docking together for extra oomph. Sol Cresta looks to be sticking true to that formula, as you can see in the announcement trailer above.
It's set to be the first in a range of games from the developer that it's calling the NeoClassic Arcade Series, so expect to see more retro adventures from the studio going forward. Are you looking forward to Sol Cresta? Dock into the comments section below.

Looks promising... until the gameplay is reduced to 1/3 (!) of the screen.
Count me in. I loved Moon Cresta in the arcades.
What year is this?
Big fan of Terra Cresta both in the arcade and the C64 version (though it's a bit lacking). This seems pretty cool and look forward to what else is featured in the NeoClassic series. If they are looking at other Nichibutsu games, then Galivan or ArmedF updates night be interesting.
@naruball What even is time anymore? Definitely not what it used to be
@Voltan haha. Can't argue with that.
I don't understand how it would have ever been taken as a joke? It seems like a really cool idea
I still read Sor Presta on the logo. And I got tired of shoot-em-up 25 years ago.
