Square Enix has dropped a lengthy eight-minute trailer for SaGa Frontier Remastered. It goes over the game's story, all of its playable characters, and various gameplay mechanics. Basically, if you're not sure what SaGa Frontier actually is, then this thing's well worth a watch.
The original SaGa Frontier released for the PS1, way back in 1997. It was reasonably well received back in the day, but it's never been the kind of game that gets mentioned alongside genre classics.
The remaster, meanwhile, is out next week for PlayStation 4, on the 15th April. Are you up for this old-school romp? Choose your hero in the comments section below.

Im waiting for the physical release they did Final Fantasy 8 after ages no issues with waiting.
I'am guessing That Saga Frontier 2 Is The Next Saga Game To Get The Remaster Treatment.
I was expecting more for a remaster, something closer to what trials of mana was
Does it have an open world like FF7?
@UltimateOtaku91 Trials Of Mana Was More Of a Remake Then a Remaster.
@Areus @UltimateOtaku91 I recently went back to the Trials of Mana remake — it's really fun!
Atm I'm willing to give any new game that comes our way a go and this looks pretty decent.
why would s-e remake saga frontier and legend of mana — both of which are among its least popular and most obtuse games from the era? instead of... parasite eve 1, xenogears, chrono cross or vagrant story? heck, even brave fencer musashi would garner more fanfare.
@Porco I was thinking the same thing. So many better games that could be remastered or even remade. Like all the games you just named, brave fencer musashi was such fun game. I never could get into Saga Frontier, weird game.
@ShogunRok I Wish They Would Have Put The Kind Of Care Into The Secret Of Mana Remake That They Did For Trials Of Mana.
@Porco budget, shorter games, less hype. Those games you listed are huge and would require a lot more effort. Refreshing some backgrounds, remastering music (if they even did this), and adding cleaner sprites is not a big undertaking. Also, SaGa Frontier 1 & 2 are great games with unique game play. I am looking forward to purchasing.
@slips666 i was not insinuating that s-e would "remake" any of those games (from the ground up) with the same production values as blupoint's demons' souls remake, capcom's resident evil 2 remake or s-e's final fantasy vii remake. i would just expect the same level of treatment that saga frontier is getting. no more, no less. really, it would just be a resolution increase and a few quality of life/ui improvements if nothing else. that would not cost a fortune, not would it require the input of the original creators which have since left the company in many cases. this is more of a question as to why s-e continues to ignore its most beloved franchises. saga frontier is certainly one of the lower tiered franchises in its catalogue and frankly doesn't warrant this attention.
@ellsworth004 yup. let's hope s-e wakes up one day and realizes just how valuable their dormant IP really is. we can only hope they are saving them for a rainy day — once they have fully extracted ff vii and fatigue has set in
That trailer really impressed me, but still gonna wait for a $15-$20 sale, have zero nostalgia.
