Call of Duty Crossbow

For a time yesterday, players of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War were able to get their hands on a weapon that shouldn't have been there. Not part of any patch notes released for the game, the Crossbow could be either purchased as part of a bundle in the in-game store or unlocked by completing challenges. However, Activision has now pulled the weapon entirely and promised refunds for those who wished to circumvent the grind and bought the Crossbow for 1,200 COD Points. The publisher has also confirmed that when the weapon does return as part of its official rollout, all levelling progress will be reset.

To unlock the Crossbow free of charge, players had to earn three One Shot, One Kill medals in 15 different matches through the use of a gun without any attachments. While the challenge will have taken a few hours to complete, the Call of Duty community managed to unlock the weapon in its droves, making the fact that progress will be reset all the more frustrating. The community argues that with it being part of the game for a short period of time, that progress should stick. Since without players knowing it shouldn't be there, they feel like they're the ones being punished for Activision's slip up. That sounds like a fair point from where we're standing.

On Twitter, Activision posted: "An issue with the R1 Shadowhunter weapon appearing earlier than planned in Warzone and Black Ops Cold War has been resolved. Refunds are planned for players who purchased the bundle while it was live in the Store, and the bundle and in-game challenge will return at a later date." Treyarch's community manager Josh Torres then broke the unwelcome news that Crossbow levelling progress would be reset.
