Given that Square Enix is releasing the fully updated Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for PlayStation 5 this summer, we assumed that this would be the case, but now we have some form of confirmation: there probably won't be any additional Remake DLC following Episode Yuffie. This is according to director Tetsuya Nomura, who's been popping up in all kinds of interviews recently.
Speaking to Famitsu, Nomura says: "Due to the [Intergrade] upgrade, it became necessary to separate Episode Yuffie as DLC. However, the original purpose was to make the PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, not to make DLC. Therefore, there are no [additional] plans for DLC at this time."
Again, this comes as no real surprise. Square Enix had been pretty much silent on Final Fantasy VII Remake since its release in April 2020, until it announced Intergrade just a few weeks ago. Nomura goes on to say that through focusing on the PS5 version of Remake, rather than more DLC, development of Remake Part 2 — or whatever it ends up being called — should be smooth sailing. Let's hope that's the case!

Sounds like they were contract-bound to make any upgrade different to a certain degree to enable it to go on PS5 and Series X, similar to remastering an album after a record contract ends.
Doubt it's because they've thought so far ahead that they need this as a prologue for her.
@feral1975 There hasn't even been any news of FF7 Remake going on Xbox. Who knows if it'll happen?
Yeah that’s fine by me. No need to go down the FFXV road.
Anyone know the release date for FFVIIRP2 Intergrade on PS6?
Seems like Yuffie was cut content for the official sequel but Square found it as a great opportunity to re-release first game during a pandemic with “current gen” features on top to soften the price tag
@ShogunRok "Final Fantasy VII Remake DLC"
Can we buy it for PS4? If not, it isn't FF7R DLC as the title says, It's FF7RI DLC. Which if we can only play that on PS5, isn't the same game.
That’s cool! I imagine they are taking some time because of the pandemic: so the Yuffie paralogue is a cool little extra to tide us over.
With Wutai playing a much larger role in the Remake, it makes sense to bring Yuffie in earlier since I expect her role is going to be greatly expanded in Remake 2.
I do think people need to realize Part 2 is most likely 2023/2024. I think XVI is going to be the big 2022 title since they have a big event this year for it planned and it has been in development over 4 years.
@nessisonett yep, to learn the true ending of FFXV you need to read a novel, the game was a mess with all the patches and dlc
Good on them, I was worried we would get a million dlcs
@nessisonett Exactly
Im only playing it now because its was "free" on PS+ but i was originally just gonna wait still there was a whole collection thing. I got burnt by this episode stuff years ago with Xenosaga.
@pharos_haven you might be waiting for over 20 years for a compilation. They still don't know how many part they will make.
I'm half way through the chapters on hard mode and it is just that, but just like the song from the 'manaquin' movie say's, Nothing's gonna stop us now!
You mean we don't get Episode Sepheroth, Episode Aeris, Episode Cid, and an internet cheat sheet telling us when to stop playing the game and when to play those for the story to make sense? Worst. FF. Ever.
@nessisonett FFXV. Road. I see what you just did there.
@Vivisapprentice To be fair there was supposed to be one more DLC that provided the true ending, but they finally cut that and moved onto XVI, which is a shame, after years of drip feed DLCs to complete the story they finally stop the nonsense like a year AFTER announcing they were finally going to finish the story...and then never did.
Even though FF7 is one of my all time favourite games and the only rpg that I've played and completed, I wasn't really up for the remake, but as I got it on ps+ I thought I would give it a go. Absolutely blown away by it. What an amazing game. I can't wait for part 2 so I'm glad they won't be dilly dallying with any dlc before they crack on with it.
@NEStalgia I’m glad they did cancel the DLC, I read the novel and they changed the ending dramatically and made all the end chapters mute, changed the story for the worst, the whole heroes fighting against fate trope that FF seems to roll with lately
@Vivisapprentice Yeah, narratively that sounds worse. I have to admit though, I wouldn't have minded a happier ending....
I am a lil' bit sad we won't have a DLC episode that will introduce us to the other characters.
However if that means the team can focus on delivering an awesome Part 2 (in 2022 or 2023?), then full steam ahead!
