You may remember seeing Dark Alliance at The Game Awards 2019. Its announcement trailer ended up being the source of many a meme thanks to its extremely awkward direction and edgy tone (here's a link to refresh your memory).
Anyway, Dark Alliance is back with actual gameplay (though brief) and a release date. It's arriving on both PS5 and PS4 this summer, from the 22nd June. Those who buy the game on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.
For those totally out of the loop, this is a co-op action title, which sees you control one of four famous Dungeons & Dragons characters: Drizzt Do’Urden, Catti-brie, Bruenor, or Wulfgar. Naturally, each hero demands a different style of play.
It all sounds quite promising on paper: "Each playable character has more than 50 combat abilities to master, giving you a lot of tools at your disposal," reads the press release. Apparently, the game's perfectly playable solo — but it's obviously built with co-op in mind. The press release continues: "Exploration is encouraged. Sometimes you might find a secret room or a puzzle that grants you new loot. Replaying levels is encouraged too. Up a mission’s Challenge Rating and take on harder enemies to get better loot."

THIS LOOKS AMAZING
Dark Alliance 1 was my favorite GameCube game. I still remember the convoluted cheat code to skip to any level and max your stats hahaha.
I have no familiarity with D&D or this franchise, but that trailer has got me intrigued. I'll await reviews eagerly!
Wow, you can play as Drizzt from the start instead of unlocking him? I mean, his books are laughably bad but he’s the most famous D&D character by a mile.
Yoo is this like ps2 baldur gate games? Those are amazing games, I remember finishing it coop locally with my friend back then 😃
Also the water effect are amazing on ps2 lol.
I read some D&D books as a teenager and these names are actually familiar
Apparently you can pre-order the PlayStation versions already via the game's website, if you already knew you were going to take the plunge: https://darkalliance.wizards.com/en
Apparently the game has no split screen or couch co op. Utterly missing one of the main attractions of the previous Dark Alliance games.
Easy skip for me without that.
I watched some gameplay (separate from this trailer) and it looks super janky; stiff animations, poor AI and a lack of feedback from attacks have left me a little underwhelmed. Shame about the camera angle shift too
Also, no mage class? Baffling!
I LOVED these games back when I was a kid, and the champions of norrath titles. Really great for coop adventure and replayability. I look forward to seeing how this turns out!
This game just needs a permanent "metal" soundtrack - it seems to fit.
Drizzt deserves a big Witcher 3 like RPG game. Disappointed to see this..
If you haven’t seen the announcement trailer for this game I highly recommend viewing it. One of the most cringe inducing trailers I’ve ever seen but it’s downright hilarious. Go Pro on a sword lmao
sweet il play this through on single player.
looking forward to it.
Hi there fellow gamers.
I loved playing Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance on my PS2 way back then. I remember being kinda blown away by the water pudles physics whenever my character would walk on them. How much things have changed and improved over the years.
But man, just the fact I can play as my all time favourite book character, my boy Drizzt Do’Urden right from the start,
I am so in.
Loved both the Dark Elf saga as well as the Ice Wind Dale trilogy.
These are my favourite fantasy novels.
Really hopping the game turns out to be at least good fun.
Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
Ooooh, neat. Reminds me of my days as a DM. Should be fun! PC release?
NINJA APPROVED
@JB_Whiting Where have you seen more content or gameplay, I can't seem to find any on YouTube
I hope it split screen! 😱 Childhood
Not quite dragon dogma the icon.but this looks cool.word up son
Read all the Drizzt books so a massive fan, but looking in detail at the trailer the game makers have not made the characters as true to the novels so that puts me off a bit. Yes I’m that guy.
I played the Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance games back in the day, but I don’t think this is the same thing. They share the same subtitle but this looks way too different. Give me the Baldur’s Gate DA games and I’ll be happy!
YES this looks awesome. Light, fun, action RPG goodness. Sign. Me. Up!
@TheLightSpirit seems there's going to be a level cap of 20, and no chance for split screen, so those 2 games may still remain some of the greatest examples of the genre!
@J2theEzzo There’s a polygon article that says they may look into adding Split Screen down the road. Could just be PR mumbo jumbo but at least they’re aware people want it.
Didn't know about this game, I'm interested.
@mrobinson91 Check some gameplay out here:

As you can see it's clunky as hell; hit detection is poor and animation is kinda stiff and wonky. I mean it COULD be fun, in a throwaway rental sort of way.
Looking for my "Shut up and take my money" gif
@JB_Whiting thanks for sharing. Yeah can see what you mean, as a d&d player I'll be keeping my eye on it and hoping it gets polished up for launch.
@Stragen8 I imagine a lot of people are gonna be calling for it, as I know I'm not alone in thinking that was a large part of the originals' charm. Have heard the digital standard edition is gonna be about 30 quid, so I guess it's not expected to be a big budget release, but may change down the line based on reception!
I never got into the Dungeons and Dragons franchise itself, but I love animation or TV/movies that have DND themes.
Hope everyone enjoys the game, I'll be waiting for a $10-$15 bargain bin sale.
Oh yes! Finally...So happy. But make it COOP please
Loved the first two, but that trailer was tacky AF. Really put me off, and I love Drizzt
Didn't know this was on the way? Doesn't look to be in the same vein as the PS2 originals so I'm guessing couch co-op won't even be an option?
Hoped they were remakes as the PS2 Dark Alliance games were the best dungeon crawlers of their era (ah, the ElfSong tavern....)

I miss Snowblind Studios - they developed the original and made the Norrath titles support the multi-tap on the PS2 so they were 4 player couch co-op - good times! Then they got assimilated into WB and disappeared after a poor LoTR spinoff.
You'd have thought that after the success of Diablo 3 some publishers would have plundered their archives to bring remasters of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2, Champions of Norrath & Return to Arms and maybe even Gauntlet Dark Legacy? Don't Sony own the IP for the Champions of Norrath games?
I'm not into Dungeons & Dragons, but have always loved media that made references and such.
Happy for friends that are eager to play this, but I will be passing on it.
