If you haven’t heard of Valheim, then you probably aren’t visiting many video game websites. This is the thing right now – just like Fortnite, Fall Guys, and PUBG were once upon a time. The Norse survival release has sold two million copies in just two weeks, and word of mouth is so outrageously strong that said number will surely double before the end of the month.
Of course, it’s only available on PC at the moment, which does limit its potential audience somewhat. So is there any chance of the Viking adventure sailing to PlayStation 5 in the near-future? At the moment, developer Iron Gate Studio is focused on PC, sadly: “There are no plans to release on other platforms as of the time of writing, but we won’t rule out console versions in the future,” an FAQ explains.
Given the levels of success this title is seeing, we’d be shocked if it didn’t end up on the PlayStation Store eventually – it’s perhaps worth noting that the aforementioned page was last updated on 18th January, before the game launched and became the next big survival game sensation. Ports don’t grow on trees, though, so don’t expect much to change in the short-term.

I've been hearing such strong word of mouth, and I love viking stuff so much, I'd buy this in a heartbeat if I could play with my buddies on PS4 (or 5, eventually).
I really hope it makes the jump. I'd love to get into a survival game.
Hopefully, it does well enough that they decide they can't afford NOT to bring it to consoles. It looks like my kind of game.
I’ve literally never heard of it and I use Steam daily. I must be completely blind.
Yes, I've been playing this game for a couple of days, I want this game on ps5 right now lol.
I don't like survival games and building stuff but this game is different, it's more of a single player adventure like oblivion/skyrim with less story but more survival stuff.
The map when you zoom out is kind of crazy, there's like, whole planet to explore, and the fact it's randomized (there's different biomes) and you can play it with friend means the replay value is really high, it's worth $20 the asking price.
Edit: Wait a minute, since the game is about viking, maybe sony can have exclusive god of war dlc content story in the ps5 version, like playing as kratos before he meet his second wife, that's pretty cool I think 😃
@Grimwood The game is really good, even I that didn't like playing on pc, survival games, and early access games, actually spend a lot of times playing this game, it's fun.
A week ago, Rust was the big game everyone was playing on PC. Now it's Valheim. Not saying they're bad games, but there's some serious flavour of the month going on right now, largely dependent on popular streamers, YouTubers, etc.
Kinda burnt out on the whole Viking theme. Made the mistake of binge watching The Last Kingdom on Netflix whilst playing AC Valhalla.
I wasn't expecting but have been blown away with this game, probably my favourite survival game now, hope it comes to ps5 and ps4 so more people can experience this, so much better than vile and toxic excuse of a game called rust.
@ShogunRok what does that even mean?
I mean, that's the same thing on PS, Switch and XBox as well, and always has been: there's always a game that's trendy at the moment, like Hitman 3 last week, Ghost Of Tsushima last summer and TLOU2 before that.
Big game comes out, everyone talks about it.
On topic, I've never heard of this game, I'll look up a trailer or two!
@Medic_Alert
Developers have been very good with a road map and after about 40 hours have of accounted one bug, something that can't be said about a lot of AAA games that have a proper release. £15 well spent I would of happily paid double after what I've played
@ShogunRok
This is much better than rust, rust is just a awful toxic wasteland that's on!y PvP
Wow, the Norse and Viking based media is getting a little out of hand, isn’t it? I really liked Hellblade and God of War and I’ll probably play AC Valhalla eventually, but I’m wondering what the saturation point is.
@Medic_Alert
Get what you are saying , but easily hundreds of hours in its current state, and usual with a lot of early access stuff by the time other stuff has been added it could easily double in price. As just hope it keeps performing and stuff keeps getting added, hell with a lot of these types of fantastic is constantly added well after release. Look at no man's sky it's constantly having new stuff added and this game is in a lot better state at launch than it was
As the game very playable as it is now thay could of released it as proper release and then charged for updated content which some company's would do.
I do like that nearly every action gets you xp and boosts skills and that unlike a lot of survival games you can actually sleep in the beds you make and are not just a spawn point.
Of course always the chance it will be abandoned but have the feeling it won't
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L You severely lack reading comprehension.
Never heard of it....just had a look,looks like hot garbage and sort of like the usual game pass crap microsoft churn on out on a monthly basis ,im sure its very popular with those young influencers 🙄
@nessisonett I didn't notice it on Steam bit I've seen a lot of streamers playing it, even retro games focused people. It looks great to be honest and I'm gonna give it a go
"Of course, it’s only available on PC at the moment, which does limit its potential audience somewhat"
Yes because the PS5 is such a big market right now 🤔
It's still in early access anyway so hopefully the game will grow and when the time comes I'm sure it'll head elsewhere
Watched some gameplay and it doesn’t look interesting at all. PC gamers must be bored out of their mind to make this a top game.
@Th3solution We are there! Play Immortals instead! Great game!
@carlos82 It’s sold 2 million copies already so it’s hit the masses. Doesn’t look interesting tho.
@Culjoseth Yeah, I was excited about Immortals, then it seemed to lack any major buzz after it released so I lost interest. Now I’m starting to hear some more positive things come out. Maybe I need to try that.
As a Norse side note I was also recently reminded that I need to play the excellent Odin’s Sphere Leifthaser too, which has an interesting Norse basis apparently. So I might need to balance it out with some Greek Mythology 😄
Maybe game developers can do more Egyptian, South American, Native American, African, Polynesian, or Asian Mythology eventually to mix things up. I’d especially like something based on Samoan, Maori, or Hawaiian Mythology. That or Aztec, Incan, or Mayan. There is a lot of untapped potential in other ancient civilizations gods and legends.
@Th3solution If u played and like BOTW u will love Immortals.
Hawaiian sounds pretty cool, but Native American would be my vote if it has a deep story line.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L I've never played any of these titles. I feel smug about it. 😁
