Wow, it's admittedly been quite some time since we spared a thought for The Outer Worlds. The sci-fi RPG is back in the news cycle thanks to the fact that Take-Two has outed the release window for 'Murder on Eridanos' — the game's second (and as far as we know, final) expansion.
According to the company's latest financial briefing, the DLC will launch before the end of this fiscal year — that's up until the 31st March 2021. We should hear more about it soon, then.
The Outer Worlds' first expansion, Peril on Gorgon, released back in September 2020. We thought that it was a "solid but very safe" excursion, and awarded it a 7/10 score in our review. Hopefully Murder on Eridanos has more of an edge to it.

I liked the game but I played it ages ago now. I just don’t see myself returning to the game when there are so many new games that I haven’t played before vying for my attention.
I'm really looking forward to this. I've held off buying the game until all the DLC is out. Does it run OK on OG PS4, without making it sound like it's going to take off?
I think it would take a 60fps PS5 update for me to go back to The Outer Worlds at this point.
@Fyz306903 It worked great on mine! Overall, its not a very taxing game.
@OrigamiCrane Yeah, I agree. I was a bit let down by the game. Ultimately, I was upset with the ending. I didn't feel like my actions had a definitive effect on the outcome.
Wasteland 3 absolutely crushed this game in every way
I liked it. Totally felt like I was in an episode of Red Dwarf when I was on the Unreliable.
I had fun with this, it was like Bethesda Lite. Not near as deep as it could have been in all crafting systems, plot, dialog, enemy variety, etc. Still a good time though, and I liked how sassy the ship AI was.
I found it to be quite meh tbh. The reviews were a bit too kind on it, considering the abysmal loading screens and a boring story.
Greedfall trumps this game, all the while having a lower budget and I think that says something.
I was putting myself to sleep with this game man. I just can't come back to it, it's just so boring and played it so safe.
Yet when this game was out, Y'ALL were acting like it's the second coming of FalloutNV, interesting comments smh.
@Fyz306903 I'm in the same boat but the wait is sure long 😤😤
Wow, the comments here are taking the wind out of my sails. I had been excited to try Outer Worlds, but now I’m not so sure.
I’m willing to form my own opinion though. I already picked the game up in a recent sale.
@Th3solution It's worth playing just for Parvati. Ashly Burch's best ever performance for me.
@ApostateMage I’ve never played a Fallout game nor any game from Obsidian. In fact the only Bethesda games I’ve ever played were Skyrim and I recently played DOOM 2016. So I really have nothing to compare this to. So I suspect I’ll be perfectly satisfied with The Outer Worlds. I’m just surprised that the public perception seems to have changed on a dime from last year when the buzz was quite positive.
Tried it on Gamepass on PC as I was waiting for it to come to steam and get it cheap. Anyway after playing about 3 hrs of it I didn't like it I don't know why but I uninstalled it and continues Fallout 4 and the dlc instead
@Th3solution loved the game myself, think it's one of those where like you say you have to make your own mind up. if I just read the comments on this thread I would have avoided it and ended up missing a game that I like!
Wait, it had an expansion already? I completely forgot about this game.. I have it around here somewhere. The load times were like 2 Fallout 4 load times tied together.. it was almost unplayable based on those times.
If ever the extra chapters go on sale, I'll pick them up. I generally liked the game, but ... those load times.. ugh.
