Update: The Division 2's big title update 12.1 — patch 1.30 on PlayStation consoles — is available to download now following additional server maintenance.
The headline act here is that the update allows the game to flourish on PS5 in terms of performance. Playing The Division 2 via backwards compatibility will see it run at 60 frames-per-second in 4K resolution.
Fortunately, patch 1.30 isn't a huge download. It weighs in at 4.5GB on PS4 and PS5.
Original Story: The Division 2 has a big update incoming, but actually getting it live is proving to be more difficult than the developers envisioned. In order to prepare the game for patch 12.1, scheduled maintenance was set to take place this morning, running into the early afternoon. However, said maintenance will now continue for additional five hours, and should conclude this evening instead.
According to the official forums, maintenance should conclude around 16:30 UK time. Fortunately for those of you in the US, it's not such a big deal.
In any case, we'll be sure to update this article once the patch is live. If you haven't been keeping up, patch 12.1 adds PS5 support to the looter shooter, allowing it to run at 60 frames-per-second at 4K resolution on Sony's current-gen system. The update also marks the beginning of a cool-looking Resident Evil crossover event.

Is there a particular setting to access this or will it just kick in once loaded on a PS5?
I'd be curious to see the improvements on my Ps5 but don't want to hog up that much of the SSD when I know I probably won't play it much at this point.
@Weebleman it's just on as soon as you boot it up. I could notice the difference in the title screen alone.
@redd214 ahhhh, much appreciated. Reinstalled it on my external last night so will check it out later. Cheers again.
I just download it, can't wait to play the game tomorrow, the game with expansion (warlords of newyork) size is about 100gb. My remaining ps5 ssd storage is only about 100gb now
I'm loving the 60 fps support feels like a completely diffrent game.
@redd214 this is making me exciting! only played 15-20hrs of Division 2... hope this will make me stickl more to it
@djape yeah it's very smooth. I never really understood why 60 FPS was such a big deal for PC gamers but I'm starting to get it now. After 100s of hours playing this and even Destiny 2 the difference it makes is huge. It may be a bit overwhelming if you haven't played in a while in terms of what to do and what to focus on but hope you have a good time getting back!
@redd214 ahh man... getting excited sitting at working reading this... thanks for input.! looking forward to firing it up and checking it out... I know what you mean about 60 and 30fps. I bough LG OLED screen for PS5 and man, the difference is amazing. Almost feels like a different game.. 60fps is the way to go 100%
Pop ups still present. SHAME ON YOU. Uninstall.
Defo an improvement but nothing mind blowing so far, but only played it for about half an hour and not played it for over a year. Not sure when I'll sink more time into it as I need a break from shooting people in the face, looting and upgrading gear from playing cyberpunk.
I was enjoying it loads on the ps4...got my ps5 and was fairly impressed with higher res and more stable framerate even though it was still 30fps...loaded it up last night and what a difference straight off the bat..hdr seems to have been tweaked a touch too..brilliant.
@wiiware tbh i installed division 2 straight to the ps5 hard drive and i didnt think the loading times were that much shorter to warrant the space it ate so i am playing it off my external hdd...
@Northern_munkey I heard ps4 games loading time is the same whether you install it on ps4 ssd or external ssd (like samsung t5 or t7). I prefer adding external ssd but I want to wait for a couple of months for ps5 compatible internal nvme 4.0 ssd news from sony.
@Turnsen same here, it feels and looks so good, it makes me want Division 3 that much more! =)
@wiiware i have my ps4 games on a external 1t hdd and it seems that the ps5 reads the data quicker..i could be wrong and maybe its the placebo effect kicking in..i installed the division 2 straight to the ps5 to see if it booted any quicker and tbh i didnt see that much if a difference between it being sucked straight from the hdd...which is why i left it on there..it definatly loads faster than it did on the ps4 albeit not that much..
@Northern_munkey Yeah, I heard external hdd on ps5 load faster than on ps4 but not as fast as ps5 external ssd. Oh well at least with only 600gb my ps5 isn't filled with games that I don't have time to play, only the important ones
Well, it seems the update screwed something up with the game for me. Hopped on and enjoyed the framerate upgrade.
Hopped on today, get an error code saying I can't play the game. Seems after a Google search my only option was a full delete and reinstall. Only now, even with the always download PS4 games to my external hdd option checked, it wants to install to my internal instead, of which I don't have enough space. I guess now I need to delete stuff, transfer between hdd's and reinstall multiple large file games.
WTF?!?
Just more finicky issues with the PS5 I suppose.
EDIT:
Weird, I deleted a game at about 57gb on my PS5's internal HDD allowing me to install Division 2 on my console.
But...its installing to my external??
So I had more than enough space on my external to install the game, but I needed to delete a game on my internal, for it to start downloading... to my external.
🤔🤦♂️🤷♂️
