It feels as though Ninja Gaiden fans have been waiting for eons, but their patience has finally been rewarded. Koei Tecmo has announced the tough-as-nails action series is coming back with Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection on PlayStation 4.
The package contains a trio of adventures with Ryu Hayabusa: Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. The collection also includes "most" of the DLC and post-launch game modes. This doesn't appear to be a remaster of any kind — it looks like this is a simple port of the three titles to more modern systems.
Still, it's exciting to see the series return. We're fans of these challenging action games, so we'll definitely be slashing and dashing when this launches on 10th June 2021. Are you excited to see Ryu back? Careful where you point those katanas in the comments section below.

Oh cool, I can play Ninja Gaiden 1, 2, and Garbage all in one.
Kind of bummed that they didn't put more effort in with remastering. But I still quite liked these, even 3.
Played them all before, no interest what so ever for them now.
New games please from everybody.
I've heard about how hard these titles are - a title well deserved I believe.
They are difficult but not quite as hard as some of the Sekiro and Souls hardest bosses, there are different difficulties though, they are more 'arcadey' in style, yes 3 isn't as good, but 1 and 2 are classics of the era. If anyone has PS Plus 2&3 are on there.
Finally.love me some ninja gaiden.i will be buying this.word up son
i was real close to paying $50 for ninja gaiden 3: razor's edge this summer. it seems to have had a small print run and fetches a high price. glad i held off as i will definitely pick up this collection instead so long as it runs at 1080p and is locked to a perfect 60fps.
@Porco $50 for Ninja Gaiden 3 is like paying full restaurant price for a Big Mac. It’s not dreadful and goes down alright but when you’ve tasted actual food/Ninja Gaiden, it does not compare.
@nessisonett That is probably the nicest way I have seen someone describe 3 so far. I have played 2 and Razor's Edge and 2 is easily the better game, no competition. That said, I still like 3. I am very much looking forward to playing 1.
They are going to look terrible now. Can't believe they are just ports not even a remaster. Cash grab.
I have these for ps3 and I have 1&2 for the vita. If they were remastered I would buy them but just original ports I don't need again tbh. Shame really.
Doesn't seem like much effort went into this unlike Mass Effect, actually it doesn't look like any effort was used at all. So just group them all in a bag and put it on any platform that wants it I guess.
Sigma 2 sucks, its worse than the base game. Sigma 1 is the only thing worth it in this package. Should have had Sigma and normal versions.
@Max2574 They hold up a lot better than Mario 64 does graphically.
Shame it's Sigma 2 and not NG2, that version of the game is far superior. Been playing it on Series S lately and it still beats any hack/slash out there to this day. Graphically it holds up really well too. Gonna be weird seeing the Sigma games on XB.
Wonder if they'll be a ps5 version? I'd hate to buy this then they announce a ps5 port a month later
@playstation1995 yeah I'm definitely getting this also. Word is bond
@Coltaine22 I play The Mario games on my Rasberry Pi with texture pack and HD mod brings them bk to life and looks really good you can do this for alot of old games. Ninja gaiden is one of my all time favourites that led me to the Souls series. So hyped and disappointed at the same time I guess. Would of loved a remaster or a remake but still getting it day one.
Great games but a straight port? They could have at least remastered them..with the recent nioh collection on the ps5 and this i personally feel as though koie tecmo have taken the easy path of no resistance and been very lazy with these titles...give them the love they deserve or at least sell the package cheap..
Today 2 incredibly lazy ports were announced lol, I'll play these again, maybe stubb's the zombie again as well but they seem incredibly bare bones
@OrigamiCrane - The games differ. Sigma has the slowest combat but it's still pretty quick, not Souls slow. Sigma 2 and Razor's Edge have much faster combat. All of them are faster paced than Sekiro but that game is more like QTE combat, the Gaiden games are more fluid and do require decent reflexes but not in the same way as Sekiro. The combat is far more free flowing.
@Shigurui Sigma 2 is bad, they cut content from the original and its has no blood. Sigma 1 actually added things. All the versions of every Ninja Gaiden should be in this, plus the NES games and the arcade game, hell throw in the Sega Master System game.
@ellsworth004. Definitely word up son
@OrigamiCrane
It's twitchy, for sure. My biggest gripe with it was weird and uncontrollable camera angles. That said, it IS good action, and when it came out, it had nice graphics. Not sure how they'd hold up now, though.
No.Buy.Old.Game.Make.New.Game.
@Coltaine22 - I already said it's a shame we're getting Sigma 2 over NG2 and I never said Sigma 2 was good. It's inferior to NG2 in almost every way, the only things it added that were worthwhile are the auto-equip bow and Enma's Fang.
Nah pass on this, lazy port with no changes there is no point in picking this up really? Especially if the asking price is full retail 😤😤
@OrigamiCrane - Any Gaiden game is a much faster game than Souls 3, the Souls games are slower, more methodical and NG games are about speed and pushing the aggression.
As for DMC vs NG, I'm a big fan of both but I much prefer NG. DMC enemies are there to be hit, NG enemies are there to kill you.
@OrigamiCrane
I'd say Ninja is faster, but that's offset by your ability to jump and flip off walls. It's fun and can be a great rush when you pull off the right move at the right time. I liked Ninja G way more than Devil May Cry, but I suppose that's subjective. Devil May Cry is easier, for sure. Also, I haven't played DS3, I'm basing what I'm saying off of DS1 and Bloodborne. Hope it helps, sorry if it doesn't.
Its too bad these are the dumbed down Sigma versions. Looks like backwards compatible Xbox versions are still the way to go.
Having never played any of them but heard loads since getting into Souls and Nioh et al I'm really excited to finally get an opportunity to play them... the port-not-remaster news is a little strange though. Does 'anyone' simply port older gen games? Can't remember the last time I saw that, it has always been remasters in that situation to varying degrees no?
@colonelkilgore - There's very little to remaster. The combat engine of every game is rock solid, as are the animations and all the NG games were 60fps.
It's pretty much given that they're all going to be 1080p minimum on base console and most likely 4K on the Pro and PC versions which is a huge leap over the 720p and sub 720p originals. I don't get the concern.
@Shigurui ah, well that does sort of assuage my concern... probably my ignorance in terms of what the term 'remaster' actually constitutes. The fact that the resolution will get an appropriate bump is kind of what I was expecting.
@nessisonett no doubt. ninja gaiden 3: re was always a curosity of mine, even though i knew it was the ugly step child of the series. i hear that it improved some of ninja gaiden 3's problems but a medicore game can only be improved so much heh.
@OrigamiCrane Anytime!
@colonelkilgore - I'm just speculating but I highly doubt we'll get untouched 720p games. I expect these will be like Bayonetta, Vanquish, BioShock etc. All those games got was a resolution hike, better fps and very little else. I think it's safe to say that's what we'll be getting here.
Loved these games when they first released! Will probably pick up the "Master Collection" if the price is reasonable.
@OrigamiCrane Played both. Ninja Gaiden is much more twitchy. There's a reason I play Souls games, and that's because I prefer slower-paced combat. If you have PTSD you may want to at least check some videos of it to see what you think. It's pretty jarringly fast, compared to Dark Souls 3, and Freide is a slow boss compared to Ninja Gaiden.
NINJA APPROVED (of course)

@OrigamiCrane I would definitely say dark soul type of games are harder than Ninja Gaiden (My opinion). However Ninja is a lot of fun and still pretty challenging I would say pick it up when it comes out. You will have HOURS of fun!
@achangedyou - Not to knock your opinion but have you played the NG games on Master Ninja/Ultimate Ninja difficulty? The Souls games are a joke in comparison. Not even close.
I've beat every Souls game on multiple NG+ cycles and none of them are nearly as difficult as NG on its hardest setting. The NG2 Mission Mode DLC is possibly the hardest thing I've ever played in my life.
@Shigurui To be honest I don't remember but I doubt it lol. I remember my friend playing it on those difficulties and I remember his frustration. I'll take your word for it since you played all souls games (I have yet to beat one never got into them, just got demon souls for the PS5) Now for sure once I get the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy I shall play on those difficulties. Now you're making me nervous lol.
@OrigamiCrane You bet! I know that PTSD can manifest in odd ways, so I figured it would be good to give you a heads up.
I used to teach Tai Chi and we would start class with meditation/deep breathing. I had a new guy in class and when I close meditation, I clapped loudly and the new guy dropped to the floor.
He and his wife pulled me aside while my assistant took over, and politely explained that he was an Iraqi war vet, and has PTSD. He reacted as if a bomb went off.
That being said, I changed how I brought future classes out of meditation from then on. I was happy they were so forgiving of my foible!
So yeah, I got your back, because I learned the hard way!
NINJA APPROVED
@OrigamiCrane - A little more context for NG. The language gets a bit fruity but here's what to expect from a real need to 'git gud' perspective. Hilarious.

@Arugula
Releasing old games and most remasters is getting way over the top now, old and boring.
Focus all resource on new games for god sake.
@OrigamiCrane - I'd say in it's genre against games like DMC and Bayonetta that Gaiden is definitely the most difficult on the highest setting. The good thing is that like those games it has difficulty options so anyone can play and enjoy them.
That video is being played on the Path of the Mentor difficulty btw. There's one higher and two lower than that. So plenty of leeway for players of all skill levels.
@OrigamiCrane That’s really hard to go through. A recent death of a close friend taught me that unfortunate lesson. I hope you are recovering well.
I've never played the Ninja Gaiden series before, so def interested!
Shame they are just ports though, not true remasters.
