We already know who MLB The Show 21’s cover star will be: San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatís Jr. That’s all according to leaked box art of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One version, which emerged over the weekend. And it’ll be made official on a 1st February episode of Hot Ones, meaning a full unveiling is imminent:
This should be fascinating, as it’ll be the first multiformat title published by Sony. We already know that both PS5 and PS4 are a lock – those versions were rated for release in Brazil earlier in the year – but we also saw an Xbox One cover outed as part of the aforementioned leak. Xbox Series X retail listings have been spotted on GameStop, while we’re still awaiting confirmation of PC and Nintendo Switch.
Just in case you missed that box art, we’ll share again it below for you:
Once the platforms are cleaned up, it’ll be interesting to learn exactly what Sony San Diego’s bringing to this year’s version of the game. With the world in lockdown since the last instalment launched, and a bunch of new platforms to develop for, we’re hoping that the series’ ordinarily unshakeable quality doesn’t take a dip. We should know a lot more this coming week.

Even before the leak, I’d have bet my life savings on the cover star being Tatís Jr.
Wonder if we'll also get some gameplay and a release date.
@RBMango I think we will, yes.
Should be easy to make this year's game. The stadiums can be empty or filled with static sprites. For authenticity.
@NEStalgia Fill them out with South Park cut-outs like that one stadium did. Day one purchase for me.
@RBMango If we really want to mix signals, one stadium did animal crossing cutouts. Will Sony strike a deal with Tom Nook, that's the question....
@RBMango Rumors are saying April 20th
@get2sammyb The release date might have been leaked. April 20, 2021, but 4 days early access for those who buy a special edition themed after Jackie Robinson.

@NEStalgia I'll buy whatever special edition Sony wants me to in order to get that feature.
I can't wait. Finally Xbox will have a good Baseball game.
@Tasuki I remember during my GameStop days when I'd get asked by Xbox players what baseball games were available for One. It broke my heart to pick up R.B.I. Baseball and hand it to them. I'm happy Xbox fans are finally getting a decent baseball series.
@RBMango I want to say the last decent baseball game Xbox got was MLB 2K13.
Seeing the PlayStation Studios logo on an Xbox or Switch game cover is probably going to trigger some of those elitists on Twitter just like when Horizon was announced for PC lmao
@TheFrenchiestFry You must have missed the other article.
@nessisonett @TheFrenchiestFry Reading some of the reactions on the other article made me embarrassed to be a PlayStation fan.
Easily the best 'sports' sim out there. EA take note, this is how you make a sports game without alienating the majority of your fanbase every year......
Couldn't care Rounders here in the UK is not a even a footnote for people. Sure it will still sell a few thousand copies here but generally we couldn't care. But in America I know its a big release. Be intresting to see the Fifa sales in America compared to the UK as its similar although football is growing slowly in the U.S.
Damn MLB's on Xbox?? Also don't worry about the flak from Brits, I'm Brit myself and I love me some Baseball (though preferably of the IRL kind)
It's on the PS Store now - release date is April 20 and the artwork is pretty much the leaked one indeed.
Also: the PS5 version is €10 more than the PS4 one... weird for a Sony game.
edit: teaser out now (no gameplay) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpKlUDPpwN8
@TheDavyStar Yeah, I’m in the UK too and love a bit of baseball, don’t really understand why Brits write this stuff off. It’s just a sport.
