During its latest earnings call, Activision confirmed that neither Diablo 4 nor Overwatch 2 will launch this year. The two titles were originally announced back at BlizzCon 2019 and have been completely missing in action ever since, and 2021 doesn't appear to be the right time for them either. That doesn't rule out more information and footage being shown for the pair at some point over the next 11 months, but as far as a release date goes, it's not happening this year.
We can't say we ever expected Diablo 4 to hit in 2021, but the Overwatch 2 situation is certainly an interesting one. The sequel was pitched as basically a huge update to the original game, also packing single player content. Whenever that arrives, it'll now be at least two years after its first reveal. Whether that speaks to Activision expanding the scope of Overwatch 2 or not is pure speculation — we'll have to wait and see what the juggernaut of a publisher has to say soon.

Well, that was pretty obvious, but a confirmation is nice.
And before anyone says "OVERWATCH AND DIABLO IS BLIZZARD NOT ACTIVISON YOU IDOTS", Activision and Blizzard are under the same branch.
@HOTGOOMBA OVERWATCH AND DIABLO IS BLIZZARD NOT ACTIVISON YOU IDOT
The first time they showed Diablo 4 with that little gameplay and said that it was very early in development, when someone from management and not a dev says that kind of stuff you can expect it will take years. I was expecting 2022 for Diablo but I thought Overwatch 2 was released last year LOL
I think I missed both of these announcements (or just forgot) so I wasn't expecting either this year. 😂
Um... don't really expect anything to launch this year. If anything comes out that isn't a broken mess then that's a miracle in and of itself.
@HotGoomba Dude, are you okay?
What a bummer, I'm looking forward to both of them. That being said, I guess that means I'll be able to buy a PS5 in time for the releases and get the better versions.
Lol, who cares. Blizzard pissed their loyalty away long ago.
@B_Lindz no just trying to be funny.
Key word trying.
We should hear more about these games in a couple of weeks at BlizzConline.
From the long playable demo of Diablo 4 from last years BlizzCon its seems they pretty much have combat, UI, visual and sound effects pretty buttoned up. I don't see why it would take much longer to complete. To me this seems more like a decision made by "the suits".
@HotGoomba How many people live in your head exactly?
The internal date for these are 2022 for OW2 and 2023 for D4.
@Rhaoulos I don't know, never checked.
I long for the gone gold days when we knew a master was made for production. A best estimate is just that, not a release date.
Diablo 4 is one of the very few games I will pay $70 for!
Don't care about overwatch 2 but it's a shame diablo 4 won't come out this year, I enjoyed previous diablo, especially diablo 3, I play that game over 6 months with my friends until late night 😃
Well that fine Blizzard I have a phone.
That’s a shame, was hoping for at least one of these this year. Hey Blizzard, at least give us a 4K version of Overwatch on PS5 then!
Never cared for overwatch as its just not my cup of tea but diablo..now thats another kettle of fish..i need a diablo as soon as possible but i am prepared to wait so long as its anywhere near as great as the last 2..
Not surprised by Diablo, but I am surprised about Overwatch. I’m looking forward to both so I was hoping to see at Blizzcon this month that at least one was on it’s way this year.
WoW: Classic will surely be having a resurgence soon with TBC reportedly coming in May. It’s a shame Shadowlands looks like more of the same.
Wake me up if they ever remaster Diablo 1 & 2.
NINJA WOULD APPROVE THAT
A Diablo 3 PS5 remaster in the meantime would be nice then. It's some wonderful co-op time with friends.
Obvious to me due to ps5 and xbox series manufacturing problems. Can see a lot of games getting delayed to 2022
I'm glad to see them take all the time they need on Diablo 4. The stuff they showed us early last year was already looking great. They'd release one every week if they could, so the fact they are taking so much time with it probably means it's going to be an outright fantastic game.
I expect D4 somewhere around 2028-2030. Remember Blizzard trademarked "coming soon". Diablo is core of my gaming life. There is no year, where I won't play a few hours of D1, 2 or 3.
Hopefully I’ll have a PS5 by the time Diablo 4 releases 😉
The delay probably has more to do with Blizzard losing most of its long term key staff over the last 2 years and the what's left allegedly being underpaid to the point where they can't afford to start families.
How about Diablo 2?
I want to believe...
I dont care about Overwatch, but im definitely interested in Diablo 4. That being said, I'm taking a wait and see approach with Diablo 4.
After the Diablo 3 launch, and the F2P Diablo mobile game, I'm cautious about what Diablo 4 ends up being.
Then of course there are more recent things like Cyberpunk and so many other horrible launches over the years since Diablo 3 that has changed my stance on supporting games at launch. There is no reason to anymore.
Either you get screwed over by broken launches, or the inevitable game of the year/ultimate edition that every game seems to have now, there is absolutely no reason to support games at launch.
When you do, and you complain, like with the Control fiasco, you just get labeled as entitled. 🤷♂️
