We've been very much in the dark about Destruction AllStars lately. Granted, we have had the odd trailer here and there, with the last one focusing on its cast of characters, but we've been missing something quite important since the game's reveal last year — meaningful gameplay footage. We know roughly what this PlayStation 5 exclusive is about, but we've yet to see it properly in action.
At last, Sony has remedied this today with a brand new State of Play presentation. With less than a week until the game's launch as part of February's PS Plus lineup, the game has finally been put in the spotlight. As expected, the gameplay will be a mixture of in-car and on-foot action. While behind the wheel of one of three vehicle types, your objective is essentially to wreck other cars by slamming into them, while evading the same happening to you. You can leap out of your car and hop into another, or you can run around the arena as a nimble character, capable of dodging vehicles and vaulting over obstacles.
Each character has unique hero abilities, including a special car with its own powers. After watching the game in action for a good few minutes, it looks much more promising — the car handling looks to be super arcadey, and there's always something going on to keep you engaged. It looks like it could be a lot of fun.
Later in the video, various modes are explored, including Carnado, Stockpile, and Gridfall. Finally, the presentation touches on cosmetic items and microtransactions. You'll be able to buy one of the game's currencies, but there's no pay-to-win — it's all purely for show.
What do you make of Destruction AllStars after this latest State of Play? Tell us in the comments section below.

Not expecting any 8s or 9s but this is a perfect plus game in the vein of Rocket League or Fall Guys. Sure my kids will love it as well, can't wait!
I've been one who wasn't really sold on the idea but that actually looked fun, crazy ps plus month
I can see people lambasting it for having mtx but it seems to be cosmetic only, plus you can earn them later on. Hopefully it'll be like Crash Team Racing where it didn't effect the in game economy.
Better than I expected. Should be $40-50 tho but it's free on ps plus so not complaining
So the single player Challenge modes can only be purchased with Destruction Points that have to bought with real money? Did I understand that correctly? He said those points can also be earned later this year through daily challenges, but not at launch.
This only makes me think of why didn’t they just created a new Twisted Metal instead of this
Wonder how much you’ll have to play the daily challenges to open up the story rivalry modes. I have a policy of never spending on micro-transactions.
@GKO900 Mom's credit cards
That's awesome. I'm glad Sony uses their State of Play in such an outstanding fashion.
It gives Destruction AllStars a superb impression.
Keep it up Sony.
Looks like something that's fun to pick up and play every now and then, like rocket league. What were they thinking when they were talking about a full price release 😂
One week before launch a we finally get a decent amount of gameplay footage lol
I think i will be playing a few matches each time i switch the PS5 on before i play my main game such as Valhalla.
@LiterallyDoNotCare Probably, I mean this thing looks like a sequel to Fortnite
We wants more gifs 😄
Looks good, but don't know if it can hold my attention for too long, might get boring after a while, but can't complain for free, hopefully will love it and one of those games that can jump in and out every now and then
The game looks good and the characters look cool. Hopefully it has some legs. It will get streamed a lot the first week it comes out at least.
Major concerns and caveats I have with the game aside, it looks decent. Whether it will hold my attention beyond a day or two remains to be seen, but I'm not all that optimistic, honestly.
I think this game looks pretty fun for what it is, the game is certainly going to get ***** for its microtransactions but that aside, I think this game looks fun, I'll give a shot when it comes out next week
Looks fun. Looking forward to downloading it on launch day. How long it will keep my interest I guess is down to them and how fresh they keep it feeling over the coming months.
I love it ill get it. 🤩👍
FINALLY!!! An actual next gen game, and not just a current gen game reskinned as a next gen title. I was getting a bit tried of playing nothing but PS4 back compt games.
Gotta say, it looks better and more polished than I was expecting.
I remember not long ago there was a PushSquare article asking readers when the next State of Play will be, and many people did not think there would be a State of Play just for Destruction: All Stars. Well, perhaps Sony are thinking this might be a hit on PS+ in the same way Rocket League and Fall Guys were.
I’m looking forward to trying it out. This seems like the type of game that will have server/connectivity/matchmaking issues at launch, but I’m probably just a jaded gamer at this point because it’s happened so many times in the past. Hope I’m wrong.
@DeepSpace5D
I was one of those people who predicted they would not do a State of Play for this. I was incorrect. Good on them for supporting the development team.
They seem to be avoiding showing what happens if you run someone over, I wonder why. At the end of the day this kind of game being any good will come down to gamefeel. It'll either have it or it won't, and this will be the deciding factor.
It's free on psplus so I'll try it when it launched.
Considering the long silence this looks much better than I anticipated.
Though as a long time Destruction Derby fan, I hope the single player Mayhem and single player Arcade modes are juicy enough.
(I have little interest in playing with randoms online.)
Looks solid, so glad to finally see some proper gameplay. Looking forward to giving it a try.
@GKO900 I also think this was a missed opportunity to bring back Twisted Metal. It's not like it's some obscure Sony IP, this was a major franchise during the PSX era, I myself only ever played Twisted Metal Black on PS2 and that was one of the best games on the system. Who is to say there isn't a Twisted Metal season or expansion down the line. At the very least new characters or skins of Playstation franchises.
